Due to strong winds on the island of Jersey, this women’s final was transformed into a Swim & Run, two disciplines that favor Cassandre Beaugrand, who is less comfortable on the bike than her competitors, although the Montpellier native performed well yesterday in the semi-final. The new program for the day: three repetitions of 300 m swimming and 1.6 km running.
The women’s finals is UNDERWAY ? We’ve had to cancel the bike legs due to strong gusts in #SLTJersey, and the Enduro will now be a ?♀??♀✖3⃣. It’s going to be an interesting race!#IAMSUPERLEAGUE #Racing #Championship #Series pic.twitter.com/VTnxvYCgYe

Coming out of the water in 2nd place behind Brazil's Luisa Baptista, Cassandre Beaugrand accelerates on the run and, strategically, keeps her swim cap on (see link below). She completes the first sequence with a 9-second lead over the Dutchwoman Rachel Klamer and 10 seconds over the American Katie Zaferes, accompanied by the Frenchwoman Sandra Dodet.
Mistake or another innovative race tactic? ? Luisa Baptista is stamping her authority on this race with some amazing barefoot racing!#IAMSUPERLEAGUE #IAMLUISABAPTISTA #Racing #Championship #Series pic.twitter.com/in4Qdq7MZG

During the second sequence, Cassandre Beaugrand continues her effort and, at the start of the last swim, has a 19-second lead over a chasing trio composed of Rachel Klamer, Katie Zaferes, and the Briton Vicky Holland. Meanwhile, Sandra Dodet is fighting for 5th place at 28 seconds with the American Taylor Spivey.
With her 19-second lead over defending champion Katie Zaferes at the start of the last "1 mile" run, the race is decided. Leading from the first swim exit, Cassandre Beaugrand brilliantly wins this first stage in Jersey of the 2019-2020 Super League Triathlon.
