Third in 2018, Great Britain’s Nikki Bartlett climbed to the top step of the podium this year.
Second at Ironman 70.3 Pays d’Aix two weeks ago behind her compatriot Emma Pallant, the battle between the two women promised a merciless fight. It took place during the bike leg, with both athletes quickly moving into the lead, but things unfolded in two stages: first, in the ascent of Mirador del Rio, where Bartlett had a 1’48 lead over Pallant at the summit; second, in the last quarter of the bike leg when the latter suffered an incident.
Crash, malaise, or another problem? As we write this news, the information has not yet been revealed by the organization nor published on its social networks. She finally completed her bike leg in over 7 hours before joining the medical tent and publishing reassuring news on Twitter:
She is okay and with the medical staff

Alone in the lead at T2 with a 5'29 advantage over Denmark's Maja Stage Nielsen (5th in the last ITU Long Distance World Championship), Nikki Bartlett did not crack during the run and won the event, finishing just under 10 hours (9h59’10, 58:35 swim / 5:38:00 bike / 3:14:52 run).
Maja Stage Nielsen maintained her 2nd place in 10h03’41 and the Netherlands' Lenny Ramsey took 3rd place in 10h10’48 thanks to a marathon completed in 2h58’59.
