Compressport unveils the Aero Speed Tapes, aerodynamic tapes designed for triathletes and cyclists. When applied to the shins, they are said to provide a power gain of up to 7.8 watts at 45 km/h.
In triathlon, aerodynamics isn’t just about the helmet, wheels, or wetsuit. Compressport is now tackling another area exposed to airflow: the legs. With the Aero Speed Tapes, the French brand offers aerodynamic tapes designed to reduce drag around the shins, with a claimed gain of up to 7.8 watts at 45 km/h.

Developed in collaboration with several elite triathletes, the Compressport Aero Speed Tapes round out the brand’s AERO line. Their design features a surface composed of three rows of Aero.Dots—small silicone dots intended to disrupt airflow around the legs in order to minimize aerodynamic drag.
Up to 7.8 watts at 45 km/h
Compressport reports having tested the Aero Speed Tapes in a wind tunnel at 45 km/h, with an aerodynamic gain of up to 7.8 watts. This figure should, of course, be considered a maximum result obtained under the test conditions specified by the brand, and not as a guaranteed benefit for all users.
The benefit is particularly notable in long-distance events, where reduced drag can help maintain a given speed with less power or conserve more energy for the remainder of the race.
The product was developed in collaboration with Sam Laidlow, the 2023 Ironman World Champion. The Frenchman says he used the Aero Tapes during his attempt to set a world record for the Ironman distance, which he fell short of by a few seconds. According to him, the data collected during his tests leads him to believe that the tapes contributed to that performance.
Tapes placed on the shins
The Aero Speed Tapes consist of four strips, to be placed on the inner and outer sides of both shins, between the knee and the ankle. They are marketed as non-compressive and designed to conform to the shape of the leg without restricting movement.

The entire set weighs only 20 g. The tapes are also water-resistant and designed to stay in place throughout the entire race.
It is precisely their use in triathlons that makes this product unique. When water temperatures are too cold for a wetsuit and compression sleeves are not allowed, the Aero Speed Tapes can be applied before the start and worn throughout all three disciplines.
This allows the triathlete to exit the water and mount their bike without having to add an extra step in the transition zone to install aerodynamic accessories.
Designed for Competition
Compressport intends the Aero Speed Tapes for use in both Sprint triathlons and long-distance events. However, their design is geared toward competition, as they are intended for single-use only.
To ensure they stick properly, the brand recommends applying them to clean, dry skin that is free of any oil or greasy substances.
French triathlete Marjolaine Pierré, the 2025 long-distance world champion, highlights the product’s value when wetsuits and arm sleeves are not permitted. In particular, she believes the bands can be beneficial on fast, relatively flat courses, where aerodynamic gains are more significant.
€35 for four strips
Compressport Aero Speed Tapes are available in three sizes (S, M, and L) in a pack of four strips. Their suggested retail price is 35 €.
