Pink October: The FFVélo Mobilizes Its Clubs

Throughout the month of October, clubs affiliated with the French Cycling Tourism Federation (FFVélo) are getting involved in “Pink October,” an annual awareness campaign promoting breast cancer screening. Bike rides, gatherings, and charity fundraisers are being organized throughout France to combine cycling, socializing, and support for research.

The Federation’s clubs are offering several types of initiatives. Bike rides open to everyone will give participants the chance to ride together under the pink ribbon banner. Social events will also be organized to raise awareness about screening and discuss prevention. Finally, some clubs will hold fundraisers to benefit organizations or to help finance research.

Cycling as a Tool for Health and Fitness

This effort is part of the FFVélo’s broader initiatives to promote health and fitness through cycling. The Federation advocates for cycling that is accessible and tailored to each person’s abilities, allowing people to engage in regular physical activity while preserving the social aspect of cycle touring.

Regular physical activity is associated with numerous health benefits. Cycling helps maintain physical fitness, improve well-being, and prevent certain chronic diseases. It can also play a role in the recovery journey of people in remission, depending on their situation and with appropriate support.

Raising Awareness About Breast Cancer Screening

In France, breast cancer remains the most common cancer among women. According to the National Cancer Institute, it is also the leading cause of cancer-related deaths among women, with nearly 12,800 deaths each year.

Screening helps detect the disease earlier and increases the chances of recovery. Through initiatives organized by its clubs, the FFVélo aims to raise awareness about screening and highlight the importance of regular physical activity.

Whether it’s a bike ride, a fundraiser, or simply a moment to raise awareness: throughout the month of October, the Federation’s clubs invite cyclists to use biking as a way to participate in Pink October.
