The new Mavic Comète 45/55 and 55/65 wheels are designed to offer an aerodynamic and ultralight combination, tailored for speed and control. Built around a 25 mm internal profile and a 34 mm external profile, they optimize airflow with 30 mm tires for superior performance.

Their “Aero Wide Rim” design ensures a smoother tire-to-rim transition, reducing drag and stabilizing the wheel in crosswinds. The combination of different rim depths maximizes speed without sacrificing handling. Up front, the lower rim ensures precision and stability. At the rear, the taller rim reduces drag and boosts cruising speed. Thanks to Adaptive Layup technology, the T700, T1000, and 3K carbon offer an ideal balance between stiffness, comfort, and responsiveness. The 21 aero carbon spokes minimize drag and enhance lateral stiffness. The result: a more direct sense of speed, sharper acceleration, and more precise handling.

Wind tunnel and real-world testing have validated every detail. Mavic reports a measured gain ranging from 1.6 W to 9.1 W depending on the comparison, confirming the 55 model’s aerodynamic advantage. Mavic Ceramic bearings further reduce friction for a smoother ride. The 45/55 version is designed for climbers and riders who enjoy technical roads. Lighter and more agile, it excels on long climbs and winding descents. The 55/65 version is designed for cyclists seeking maximum aerodynamics. It shines on fast, rolling routes with less than 1,500 m of elevation gain.

Each wheel is tested against 57 internal protocols and then validated in the lab. The 40-tooth pawls ensure instant engagement. The optimized hub reduces freewheel friction and improves responsiveness. Locked-In spoke nipples maintain consistent tension over time. Mavic claims reliability far exceeding market standards. The wheels have been pushed to the extreme: lateral and vertical endurance, impact, and fatigue. “Over 250 hours of testing in our Geneva wind tunnel,” Mavic states. The endurance tests are equivalent to 700,000 km of riding. The rim profile has been refined to save 5 to 10 W in real-world wind conditions. The aero spokes reduce rotational drag by 18%.

Each wheel is hand-built in the Chavanod lab. Weight remains low: 1,350 g for the 45/55, 1,390 g for the 55/65. Wide compatibility: Shimano, SRAM XDR, Campagnolo N3W. The Comète wheels come with tubeless valves, rim tape, and wheel covers. And best of all: they come with a lifetime warranty through Mavic Care.
