Shimano is advancing its DYNALAST technology with a new generation of shoes designed to improve foot support, comfort, and pedaling efficiency, while offering more options tailored to different foot shapes.

After more than a decade of use in its high-end road, gravel, and cross-country shoes, Shimano’s DYNALAST technology is evolving. With DYNALAST 2.0, the Japanese manufacturer aims, in particular, to better accommodate different foot shapes and the natural movements of the forefoot during pedaling.
A More Natural Forefoot
The main change concerns the shape of the forefoot. Shimano has increased the space available at the toes to allow them to spread more naturally when the foot is under pedaling load. The goal is to minimize pressure points while maintaining precise support for the heel and midfoot.

To develop this new shape, Shimano says it drew on several years of biomechanical research, feedback from riders, and several hundred 3D foot scans, supplemented by pressure analyses.
Three widths to choose from
Another significant development: the DYNALAST 2.0 is now available in three distinct widths—Narrow, Standard, and Wide—to better accommodate different foot shapes.
The Standard version gains about 4% more volume in the toe box, while the Wide version offers about 6 mm of additional width in the forefoot compared to the previous Wide model, with about 7% more volume in the toe box in size 43.

Conversely, the Narrow fit features a smaller overall volume. Shimano designed it specifically for riders who previously used its women’s-specific models or who are looking for a particularly snug fit.
Less need to go up a size
This new design could also solve a problem faced by some cyclists: having to choose a longer shoe simply to get enough width in the forefoot.
With DYNALAST 2.0, Shimano believes these users can find a shoe that better matches the actual length of their foot, while enjoying greater comfort and more efficient pedaling.

With this development, Shimano isn’t just looking to improve the performance of its shoes. Above all, the manufacturer aims to offer a fit better suited to the diversity of cyclists’ feet, with an approach that combines support and freedom of movement.
