The Tarmac SL9 is no longer limited to the highly exclusive S-Works model. Specialized is expanding its lineup with two new versions, S-Level and Expert, which capture the sporty character of the flagship model but feature less high-end carbon components and finishes.

Unveiled in late June, the Tarmac SL9 has until now represented the very top of Specialized’s road bike lineup, particularly through its spectacular S-Works version. The American brand is now expanding its lineup with two additional versions: Tarmac SL9 S-Level and Tarmac SL9 Expert.
The goal is to retain the essence of the SL9’s DNA and its racing bike qualities, while offering configurations that are less exclusive than the S-Works. This is Specialized’s way of making its competition bike accessible to more riders, without sacrificing the features that define the Tarmac’s identity.
The S-Level: The Closest Alternative to the S-Works
The Tarmac SL9 S-Level is the new top-of-the-line model after the S-Works. It features an 882-gram FACT 10r carbon frame (compared to the S-Works’ FACT 12r, which weighs about 200 grams less), paired with the same FACT 12r fork as the flagship model.

Specialized lists the complete bike’s weight at 7.13 kg, which is still exceptionally light for a model designed for competition. The brand also claims aerodynamic performance very close to that of the S-Works.

The spec remains particularly impressive, featuring Roval Rapide CL III wheels, a Roval Rapide cockpit, and a Power Pro saddle equipped with Mirror technology. The bike is available with either a SRAM RED AXS or Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 groupset.
The listed price is €10,499 (compared to €13,999 for the S-Works).

The Tarmac SL9 Expert: Taking the Lineup Even Further
The Tarmac SL9 Expert represents a second tier in the SL9 lineup. It also features the FACT 10r frame but comes with a more affordable configuration.

The Roval C38 wheels replace the Rapide CL III, while the Power Expert saddle and the two-piece aluminum Specialized cockpit contribute to this more accessible approach. For the drivetrain, riders can choose between SRAM Force AXS or Shimano Ultegra Di2. The advertised weight ranges from 7.6 to 7.6 kg. The price is €6,999.

The same spirit, multiple trim levels
Specialized is finally offering two Comp versions of the Tarmac SL9, both featuring the same Fact 10r carbon frame, equipped with SRAM Rival AXS or Shimano 105 Di2 groupsets, DT Swiss R470 wheels, and an aluminum handlebar and stem, weighing between 8.1 and 8.2 kg, priced at €4,499.

With these two new versions, Specialized is not changing the Tarmac SL9’s positioning: it remains a bike designed first and foremost for performance and competition. The difference now lies in the grade of carbon and the chosen components.
The S-Works retains its status as the technological flagship and the ultimate version of the Tarmac SL9. The S-Level aims to match much of its performance with a FACT 10r construction, while the Expert and Comp models offer an even more affordable configuration.
