On July 14, the town of La Toussuire came alive with the spirit of cycling as it hosted another edition of the Gran Fondo Les Sybelles La Toussuire. Nearly 450 cyclists set off on the iconic roads of the Maurienne region for a day dedicated to sports, pushing personal limits, and exploration.

Under a radiant sun, participants enjoyed ideal conditions to tackle the three routes offered by the organizers. The various routes showcased a distillation of the Sybelles’ most beautiful landscapes, passing through legendary mountain passes and climbs such as the Lacets de Montvernier, the Col de la Confrérie, the Col du Mollard, the legendary Col de la Croix de Fer, and even the lesser-known Col du Glandon.
Throughout the day, participants rode amid the spectacular panoramic views for which the Maurienne region is renowned.

The Heat: An Additional Challenge
While conditions were perfect at the start, the high temperatures in the afternoon made the race considerably tougher. During the final climbs, pacing and hydration proved crucial for crossing the finish line.
Ludovic Valentin, organizer: “We had a wonderful event this year, with an excellent atmosphere along the entire course. The intense heat made the race more demanding, but the participants showed remarkable courage and great solidarity. We extend our warmest thanks to all the volunteers, partners, and local communities who contributed to the success of this day.”
La Maurienne, an exceptional playground
Beyond the athletic performance, this year’s event once again highlighted the natural and tourist attractions of the Maurienne region and the resort of La Toussuire. Amid legendary mountain passes and alpine landscapes, participants were immersed in the heart of one of the most beautiful cycling regions in the French Alps.
With steadily increasing attendance, the Gran Fondo Les Sybelles La Toussuire has cemented its place among the must-attend events on the summer cycling calendar.
Bruno Morel Wins the Long Course
The competitive level was particularly high despite the challenging weather conditions. On the long course—127 km with 3,500 meters of elevation gain— Bruno Morel (VC Mont Blanc) won in 3 h 47 min 10 s, ahead of Antoine Boudsocq (3 h 50 min 13 s) and Belgian Michael Apers (3 h 59 min 40 s).
In the women’s race, the victory went to Britain’s Clare Wyffels-Banham in 5:04:54, ahead of Julie David (5:19:33) and Alice Banes (5:25:18).
Cyclo Week: A Week Dedicated Entirely to Cycling
The Gran Fondo Les Sybelles is part of Cyclo Week, organized from July 12 to 17 by the La Toussuire Tourist Office.
For one week, locals, vacationers, and cycling enthusiasts can take part in a wide range of activities: climbs up legendary mountain passes, social rides, workshops, conferences, and evenings dedicated to cycling.
Led by state-certified guides and local cyclists, these rides allow participants to discover the most beautiful mountain roads in a safe and friendly atmosphere.
Cyclo Week has thus established itself as a must-attend event for all cycling enthusiasts, whether they’re seasoned athletes or simply lovers of the great outdoors.
