This is a major challenge in a sport where every gram, every movement, and every detail counts. Castelli has worked to ensure that this prototype integrates seamlessly into high-end apparel without compromising aerodynamics. Safety is a key priority for the brand and the teams, which are already committed to high visibility and abrasion-resistant fabrics. Together with RAGAZ, they are now aiming to prevent serious injuries—a sensitive issue in the peloton.

The system is designed to be discreet, lightweight, and appealing to both pros and everyday cyclists. Among its innovations: an ultra-lightweight construction, equivalent to the weight of two energy gels. The airbag deploys in 200 ms—a record time for absorbing the impact before it becomes critical. In the event of accidental deployment, controlled deflation prevents any prolonged discomfort. The module is rechargeable, removable, and machine-washable—a real plus for everyday use.

Technical images show extensive spinal protection, with impressive “cushioning” once inflated. At the press conference in Barcelona, Castelli reiterated that safety guides many of its decisions. This project marks a new milestone: integrating airbag technology into competition apparel. For Soudal Quick-Step, this innovation is the first to meet the demands of professional cycling. It protects a crucial area of the body while remaining suitable for elite riders.

RAGAZ emphasizes that its ambition has always been to provide protection without sacrificing comfort or performance. Collaborating with WorldTour teams brings essential expertise to refine the system. The first phase of the partnership focuses on technical evaluation and rapid improvement of the prototype. A combination of engineering, high-end textiles, and top-level experience to make cycling safer.
