A New Generation of Shifters for Road and Gravel Handlebars
With the CUES U4030 shifters, SHIMANO offers new interfaces for shifting and hydraulic braking tailored for road handlebar setups. The goal is clear: to provide greater flexibility to bike manufacturers and cyclists seeking accessible and durable configurations.
These new components are designed for broad compatibility with various types of gravel and road bikes, while maintaining low-maintenance requirements and intuitive operation.
The new CUES U4030 shifters
The lineup now includes three new models:
- ST-U4030-R: 9-speed right shifter (Dual Control)
- ST-U4030-L: left Dual Control shifter
- BL-U4030-L: left hydraulic brake lever for single-chainring front configurations
A first for SHIMANO in 9-speed systems for road handlebars
This new series marks an important milestone for SHIMANO, which is introducing its first 9-speed platform designed specifically for road handlebars (drop bars). Positioned as a more affordable solution, it aims for wider adoption on entry-level and mid-range bikes.
The lever design has also been revised: the reach has been reduced to make the controls more accessible to a wider range of hand sizes, thereby improving comfort and control while riding.

The CUES U4030 components are part of SHIMANO’s overall strategy for the gravel and recreational segment: to offer reliable, durable, and easy-to-use systems suited for intensive use but without excessive mechanical complexity.
