CyclOptim launches its made-in-France power pedals

Bordeaux-based startup SportOptim announces the official launch of CyclOptim, a range of power meter pedals designed and manufactured in France. After more than five years of development and a successful crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter in 2021, the company aims to democratize a technology previously reserved for a minority of cyclists. The initial launch offers are available until June 20 on the brand’s website.

The cycling market continues to grow in France. Between sports, leisure, and daily commuting, the sector now represents several billion euros and brings together millions of practitioners.

Despite this popularity, some performance measurement tools remain expensive. Power meter pedals, used to analyze developed power, pedaling cadence, leg balance, or pedaling efficiency, generally range from €500 to over €2,000 depending on the model.

Yet, this data has become essential for optimizing training, managing effort, and objectively tracking progress.

Two Ranges for Road and Off-Road

Founded by Simon Dousset, a doctor in materials mechanics and a passionate cycling competitor, SportOptim chose to integrate the sensors directly into the pedal spindle. This architecture aims to guarantee precision, robustness, and compatibility with different practices.

The CyclOptim range comes in two models:

  • MACADAM, designed for road cycling (for Look or Shimano SPD-SL type cleats)
  • MASSIF, designed for mountain biking and off-road use (for Shimano SPD type cleats)

The brand also offers COMBO packs for cyclists practicing multiple disciplines, including gravel, mountain biking, and road cycling.

Prices start from €406, a positioning that places CyclOptim among the most accessible offerings in the segment.

A Product Developed and Manufactured in France

Beyond the technological aspect, SportOptim highlights French manufacturing to support the local industrial sector and reduce the environmental impact associated with production.

For Simon Dousset, founder of SportOptim, “the goal is to make performance measurement tools accessible to the greatest number without sacrificing quality or versatility.” With this commercial launch, CyclOptim hopes to attract both competitors and amateur cyclists who wish to better understand and optimize their performance.
