With an increasingly crowded market for high-performance carbon road bikes priced around €5,000, new players are emerging that can compete with established leaders. With the Vitesse AXR2, equipped with a Shimano Ultegra Di2 groupset and a carbon wheelset, the French brand Adris aims to offer a bike that’s firmly focused on performance without breaking the bank. On paper, the Vitesse has several appealing features: an aerodynamic frame, a 12-speed electronic drivetrain, and full integration. It remains to be seen whether the Vitesse truly lives up to its promises once it hits the road. By Guillaume Judas – Photos: ©Vincent Lyky

Long a fixture in amateur pelotons with its cyclocross bikes and affordable, French-assembled models, Adris has gradually expanded its reach into high-level road racing, eventually entering the professional peloton in 2024 with the CIC U Nantes Atlantique team. Today the French brand offers a well-structured lineup, ranging from endurance models to more race-oriented bikes, with a clear commitment to providing modern bikes at competitive prices that challenge the industry giants.
In the road cycling world, Adris offers several families of bikes tailored to different uses. The endurance models prioritize comfort and versatility, while the AXR series (standing for Adris Experience Racing) embodies the brand’s performance DNA. The Vitesse AXR2 falls into this category—a model focused on efficiency and aerodynamics, designed for both competitive cyclists and demanding riders.

Priced just under the symbolic €5,000 mark with Shimano Ultegra Di2, the Vitesse goes head-to-head with well-established market leaders, at a time when electronic drivetrains and aerodynamic frames are gradually becoming the norm in the mid-to-high-end segment. In this context, Adris is playing a clear hand: that of a modern, high-performance bike that’s more affordable than the major premium brands.

Customisation as a Core Principle
Another strength of the Adris lineup—and the Vitesse in particular—is the extensive customization options for paint and components available when ordering on the brand’s website. The Vitesse is available as a frame kit starting at €1,999, with Shimano 105 starting at €2,699, with 105 Di2 at €3,299, with SRAM Rival AXS at €3,799, with Shimano Ultegra Di2 starting at €3,999 (our test bike), with SRAM Force at €4,799, with Shimano Dura-Ace at €6,499, and with SRAM Red at €7,999.

From those base prices, the level of configuration is high: paint in five colours, wheels and tyres from several options, bottom bracket and derailleur hanger with Ceramic Speed components, handlebar and stem, saddle, plus gear ratios and crank lengths.

Ultimately, with several options (including the Ikonik Speed AXP4 wheelset with their 45/50 mm profile, a fully integrated cockpit, and a Selle Italia SLR CarboKeramic saddle with carbon rails) the total price comes to €4,924, with a weight of 7.560 kg without pedals in size S.

A modern bike clearly geared toward performance
The Vitesse AXR2 is built around a second-generation carbon frame, recently updated and designed with a resolutely aerodynamic philosophy. Massive tubes, taut lines, and full integration: the bike checks all the boxes for machines designed to go fast, even if it means sacrificing some versatility. Adris also emphasizes specific engineering focused on lateral stiffness and efficiency to optimize power transfer. Within the Morbihan-based brand’s lineup, the Performance and Rouleur models undoubtedly offer more well-rounded performance.

The frame is listed at around 1,100 g in size M, including paint and hardware—about 300 g more than versatile frames from major brands—while still falling within the standard range for pure aerodynamic bikes. It’s likely an open-mold or semi-custom frame, but it’s UCI-certified—a feature still far from standard among European bike builders. https://www.3bikes.fr/2026/01/25/the-banned-equipment-that-everyone-uses/ The frame is paired with an integrated Ikonik Road AXP carbon handlebar set, featuring carefully designed ergonomics with a 70 mm reach and a 120 mm drop. It is also very stiff and differs from products by major brands only in its slightly higher weight.
The wheelset also deserves special attention. Weighing in at 1,320 g, the Ikonik Speed AXP4 wheelset offers an excellent weight-to-stiffness ratio, while its carbon spokes even seem to slightly soften the frame’s stiffness. Paired with 28 mm Michelin Pro 5 tubeless tyres, the whole setup proves to be well-balanced and efficient.

Finally, the components clearly confirm the bike’s sporty focus. The Shimano Ultegra Di2 12-speed groupset remains a benchmark in the segment, combining precision, smoothness, and reliability. The electronic shifting reinforces the feeling of modernity, while the hydraulic brakes deliver power and consistency regardless of conditions.

Fast and efficient
On the road, the Adris Vitesse makes its intentions clear right away: everything about it is designed for speed. The frame, which is extremely laterally rigid, leaves no room for flex—whether in the steering, the bottom bracket, or the rear end. Every watt seems to be directly converted into pure efficiency. The Vitesse belongs to that category of exhilarating bikes, built for trained riders who love to ride hard and for long distances.

Despite its wide tubes, tall rims, and thick spokes, the bike surprises with its stability in windy conditions. On long, exposed stretches, it remains composed and doesn’t require constant course corrections. Its handling in real-world aerodynamic conditions appears well controlled, even though it’s unclear to what extent the bike was optimized in a wind tunnel.
Overall control is enhanced by a well-balanced drivetrain. The wheels and tires offer a good balance between efficiency and comfort, with a genuine sense of security on wet roads. While not designed for absolute comfort, the Vitesse absorbs vibrations well enough to maintain a certain level of versatility over long distances.
On gradients of up to 5 or 6%, the bike remains efficient. Beyond that, it becomes more demanding, requiring more power to accelerate or change pace. Its stiffness and stability-oriented geometry favor a steady pace rather than explosive bursts of speed. This is to be expected from this type of bike. On a practical level, however, a few details slightly detract from the experience. During assembly, the seatpost clamping system gave us a hard time, with an insert that fell inside the frame and was difficult to retrieve. Once the bike was up and running, the seatpost also required several readjustments, as it didn’t always stay in place securely. The same was true for the rear wheel’s thru-axle, which was sometimes difficult to install due to the tricky alignment with the threads. Nothing truly deal-breaking, but these small imperfections set this bike apart from the very top-of-the-line models.
A pure racing bike—efficient but demanding
Ultimately, the Adris Vitesse AXR2 confirms the brand’s ambitions in the high-performance road bike segment: to offer a modern, stiff machine clearly focused on pure performance, capable of competing with the market leaders while remaining below the symbolic €5,000 mark. Its aerodynamic frame, meticulous integration and Shimano Ultegra Di2 groupset deliver a cohesive package, with very stable handling at high speeds and immediate responsiveness during sustained efforts.
The Adris Vitesse is a solid choice for those seeking a high-performance bike without breaking the bank. While it impresses with its performance, stability, and aggressive pricing, it is aimed primarily at experienced riders seeking a fast, responsive, and uncompromising bike, rather than those looking for versatility or comfort. A well-rounded and confident offering that confirms Adris’s rising prominence in the high-performance road bike market.
