With the S-Works Evade 4, Specialized has updated one of its most iconic helmets in the World Tour peloton without compromising its performance-oriented DNA. The goal is to offer a helmet that’s just as aerodynamically efficient as ever, but with improved ventilation and greater comfort over long rides. While Specialized claims a 2.4% improvement in cooling compared to the previous generation, this new model builds on its proven legacy while incorporating several notable technical refinements. From our perspective, it also takes a step forward in terms of aesthetics. We tested it on the road, notably in a direct comparison with the Evade 3 that I’ve been using for about three years, to see if these updates actually make a difference in everyday use.

The Evade 4 was developed in the WinTunnel wind tunnel and validated with professional riders, using an approach that seeks to balance aerodynamic efficiency and thermal management. On paper, the helmet retains the fundamentals that made the Evade line a success, while refining several key aspects.

The brand highlights a 2.4% improvement in cooling compared to the Evade 3, achieved through a redesign of the airflow. The vents have been redesigned to better channel incoming air without compromising aerodynamic performance. A new front vent, called the MouthPort, increases airflow, while the internal structure has been reworked with ventilation channels known as 4D Cooling, designed to guide air deeper into the helmet rather than simply circulating it on the surface.

The rear of the helmet has also been optimized with redesigned air outlet zones to promote smoother airflow, minimizing turbulence. The entire shell features a slightly sleeker silhouette, again designed to reduce drag. At the same time, the comfort system has been upgraded with the integration of new Mips® Air Node Pro pads, which serve both a safety function and help manage sweat.

Fit is another key area of improvement. The BOA® FS2 system provides a 360° circumferential tightening mechanism that’s more progressive and consistent, while the Tri-Fix 5 straps have been redesigned to improve overall stability and minimize unwanted movement. To put this review in context, I’ve been riding the Evade 3 for about three years, which gives me a direct point of comparison in terms of comfort, ventilation, and durability. The Evade 3 is a helmet whose overall balance I’ve appreciated, especially for a model that, on paper, is one of the most aerodynamically efficient. I’ve never really struggled with the heat, even on the rare days of extreme heat.

A helmet you quickly forget you’re wearing
From the very first rides, the Evade 4 delivers the experience sought after in this type of product: that of a helmet you quickly forget you’re wearing. Comfort is immediate, with even contact across the head and no noticeable pressure points. In this regard, it retains the qualities of the previous generation, but with a slightly more refined feel in terms of how the support is distributed.
On long rides, the helmet remains stable and comfortable, even when fatigue sets in or your position on the bike changes. Over the generations, the Evade has adopted a more compact profile, taking on an increasingly universal shape. For example, on the first two versions of the Evade, the pointed front slightly obstructed my field of vision in an aerodynamic position with my head down. That’s no longer the case at all with this 2026 model.
The BOA adjustment system delivers a simple and precise fit that stays reliable over time without constant tweaking. Weighing 271 g in size S, the Evade 4 isn’t among the lightest on the market, but on the road, you don’t feel its weight, even after several hours of riding.
Ventilation does indeed seem slightly improved compared to the Evade 3, as I noticed during a long gravel climb on 10–15% gradients, in intense heat and dusty conditions. The improvement, however, is subtle and difficult to quantify without perfectly identical conditions. The helmet, on the other hand, retains the signature characteristics of the Evade line: a clearly aerodynamic design, yet without causing a feeling of suffocation. This clearly places it among the best current choices for those seeking all-terrain versatility. In fact, it’s worth noting that the Evade is generally used by elite riders in road cycling, gravel, cyclocross, and mountain biking alike.

For everyday use, well-thought-out details make life easier, such as the eyewear storage system, which is simple and effective. The overall design remains understated, well-proportioned, and easily complements different types of outfits and bikes. After nearly 3,000 km of testing, I find this to be a logical continuation, with a product that remains a pleasure to use every day, whether during training or on more intense rides.

A Confidently Premium Model
Priced at €329, the Evade 4 is clearly positioned in the high-end segment, with a price that reflects both its performance-oriented positioning and its high-quality finish. It’s primarily aimed at those seeking a helmet focused on speed and aerodynamics, while maintaining a high level of comfort over time. While it doesn’t revolutionize the formula, it offers targeted improvements that enhance an already highly refined product, though its performance-to-price ratio may be a point of debate depending on usage and expectations.
