2026 Giro d’Italia: The Route, All Stage Maps and Profiles, and the Registered Riders

The 2026 Giro d'Italia begins on Friday, May 8, and ends on Sunday, May 31. On the schedule: 3,468 km to cover (an average of 165.1 km per stage), 48,700 m of elevation gain, and 21 stages, including one individual time trial (Stage 10, 42 km). The unprecedented start in Bulgaria sets the tone: the first three stages are fast-paced but treacherous, winding through Nessebar, Burgas, Plovdiv, and Sofia, where wind and positioning could already create gaps. This unconventional start, a far cry from Italian standards, adds a strategic dimension right from the first few days. Back in Italy, the peloton soon faces more rugged terrain, particularly in the south with grueling routes between Calabria and Campania. But it’s really in the second week that things get serious. Between the rolling stages in the center of the country and an always decisive time trial, the race gradually intensifies. The high mountains then take over with several summit finishes, including the formidable Blockhaus—an early litmus test—followed by the Alpine climbs around Aosta, Andalo, and Piancavallo. The climbers will have plenty of opportunities to shine, while the succession of difficult stages will put the riders’ bodies to the test. Finally, as is often the case at the Giro, the final week promises to be intense, with a schedule tailored for the leaders: significant elevation gain, high-altitude finishes, and accumulated fatigue. This promises total suspense right up to the final finish in Rome, at the end of a varied, open course that’s decidedly geared toward the offensive. To follow the race closely, find all the route information, stage maps and profiles, the registered riders, and the TV broadcast schedules for the 109th edition of the Tour of Italy.
