According to the study, users cycled nearly 885 million kilometers for their commutes in 2025, equivalent to 22,000 trips around the Earth.

Another significant finding: Baby Boomers appear to be the generation most engaged in these commutes, clearly outperforming Generation Z, which is less represented in this type of travel.

The report also highlights the growth of electric bikes, particularly popular among Boomers. Countries like Iceland, Belgium, and Norway are among the top users for daily commutes.

Despite sometimes extreme weather conditions — from the Finnish cold to Japan’s higher temperatures — cyclists continue to favor cycling as a daily mode of transport.

This data comes from Strava Metro, a free and anonymized database used by over 4,000 partners (urban planners, local authorities, public agencies) worldwide. The objective: to better understand travel flows to improve cycling and pedestrian infrastructure. According to the company, nearly a billion people have already benefited from these improvements.

For Brian Bell, Vice President of Communications and Social Impact at Strava, “these results illustrate the key role of commutes in the transition towards more sustainable and accessible mobility”.
