On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the French Cycling Tourism Federation reaffirms a strong conviction: cycling is a fundamental right. Much more than a leisure activity, it represents true access to mobility, autonomy, and emancipation. Pedaling means gaining confidence, opening up new horizons, and offering oneself a breath of freedom.
While women’s cycling participation is steadily progressing, obstacles still persist. Feelings of illegitimacy, lack of role models, technical apprehensions, organizational constraints, or safety concerns: all these barriers can hinder women’s engagement. Removing these barriers is a collective responsibility — and a priority affirmed by the Federation as part of its new governance.
Cycling for all: a concrete commitment
For several years, the Federation has been deploying a structured offer to promote women’s participation: dedicated training, specific events, mixed or women-only rides, and actions to promote female practitioners and leaders.
Its action is part of a global policy in favor of gender equality. It particularly encourages women’s access to volunteer leadership positions, relying on a network of diversity referents who support those wishing to get involved in associative life.
This dynamic begins at a young age within the French Cycling Schools, where girls and boys evolve together and share the same passion.
A label to recognize committed clubs
The Federation is also launching the “Diversity” Label, an initiative designed to identify and recognize clubs committed to gender equality.
As part of a voluntary and progressive approach, this label promotes:
an open and welcoming environment,
practices accessible to all,
the prevention of discrimination,
the promotion of women’s involvement in associative life, coaching, and leadership roles.
Through all its actions, the Federation pursues a clear objective: to make cycling a space of freedom fully accessible to all.
