Shimano launches the new TIAGRA R4000: the accessible and modernized 2×11-speed road groupset

The Japanese cycling component specialist presents the TIAGRA R4000, a completely redesigned 2×11-speed mechanical drivetrain offering a smoother, lighter, and more ergonomic road experience. With a wider gear range, reduced weight, and levers adapted to a greater number of cyclists, this new generation aims to democratize performance.

Designed to improve every ride, the new TIAGRA R4000 benefits from a complete modernization:

  • Wider gear range
  • Significant weight reduction (over 200 g saved compared to reference configurations),
  • Reworked ergonomics to adapt to different hand sizes and riding positions.

At the heart of the system, the new Dual Control levers adopt a design inspired by the brand’s higher-end groupsets. Their shorter reach and optimized shape ensure a natural grip and better control, even on long rides.

The drivetrain relies on a new 11-speed 11-36 tooth HYPERGLIDE cassette, specially developed for 2×11 configurations. It offers a 327% gear range, ideal for alternating between sprints and demanding climbs, while maintaining great shifting fluidity.

TIAGRA R4000 Highlights

  • Improved lever ergonomics with shorter reach
  • New 11–36 tooth cassette for a wider gear range
  • Overall system weight reduction
  • New rear derailleur optimized for 2×11
  • Compatibility with modern road bikes (small Q-factor, short chainstays, wider chainrings)
