The Flemish classics season kicks off with a bang this Saturday, February 28, 2026, with the 81st edition of the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, the first major cobbled race on the WorldTour. On a revised and extended 207-km course between Ghent and Ninove, the riders will tackle twelve historic climbs and a series of cobbled sections before the decisive sequence of the Muur-Kapelmuur and the Bosberg about fifteen kilometers from the finish line, in a finale that promises to separate the contenders in the final few hundred meters. Twenty-five teams—including all 18 WorldTeams and seven invited ProTeams—will line up at the start of a race that could favor puncheurs, breakaway specialists, and sprinters capable of surviving the Flemish challenges. Among the big names announced are established stars such as Wout Van Aert (Visma | Lease a Bike), the explosive Tom Pidcock (Pinarello Q36.5), the speedy Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Premier Tech), as well as rising stars like Biniam Girmay (NSN Cycling), Arnaud De Lie (Lotto Intermarché), and defending champion Søren Wærenskjold (Uno-X); all of whom could tip the scales in this first spring classic, depending on how the race unfolds. To follow this showdown from the very first attacks, check out the route, TV broadcast schedules, and the list of entrants.
