November 2025 Update: Your Garmins Are Getting Smarter!

Garmin has just rolled out a major free software update for a large portion of its smartwatches (Fēnix, Epix, Enduro, MARQ, Forerunner…) and its bike computers (Edge 1050, Edge 1040, Edge 840, Edge 540, and even the new Edge 550/850). New functions are thus appearing.

The update is already being rolled out worldwide and will progressively arrive on your devices in the coming weeks (activate automatic updates to receive it as soon as possible).

Here are the major new features that are truly game-changing.

1. Body Stress Alert: Your Watch Alerts You When Your Body Is Under Stress

Your Garmin now automatically analyzes your sleep data (resting heart rate, HRV, SpO2) and alerts you if they deviate from your usual norm.

Accumulated fatigue, stress, alcohol, onset of illness, overtraining… your watch tells you even before you truly feel it.

2. Radar Weather + Live Wind on Your Bike Computer

When your Edge is connected to your smartphone and the Garmin Connect app, you now have:

  • The precipitation radar map as an overlay
  • Real-time wind direction and strength

No more unpleasant surprises: you adapt your route or your pace before getting soaked or battling an unexpected headwind.

3. Power Guide + Smart Nutrition & Hydration (Edge 550/850 back-port)

The star feature of the Edge 1050 finally arrives on the Edge 550 and 850!

  • Real-time power targets adapted to your form on the day, the weather, altitude, and your acclimatization
  • Precise alerts: “Consume 65 g of carbohydrates and 480 ml of water in the next hour”

Everything is calculated according to your physical condition, heat, humidity, and the demands of the course.

4. Complete Analysis of Gear Ratios Used After the Ride

With an electronic drivetrain (Shimano Di2, SRAM AXS, Campagnolo EPS), you now see the time spent on each cog/chainring combination. Perfect for optimizing your race strategy or your gearing.

5. Group Ride 2.0: Group Rides with Friends Go to the Next Level

On group rides (via GroupRide in Garmin Connect):

  • In-activity messaging
  • Live location of each member
  • Live leaderboards on segments and climbs
  • Real-time comparison: speed, cadence, power, HR, watts/kg compared to the group average
  • All with incident detection and automatic alerts if someone falls.

In summary: even your “older” 2023-2024 Garmin devices become almost as powerful as the 2025 high-end models.

No particular action is needed: simply let your watch or bike computer update automatically (or force it via Garmin Express / Garmin Connect Mobile).
