Bringing together nearly 16,000 participants each year, the Étape du Tour promises to be epic in 2026, with a route between Le Bourg-d’Oisans and l’Alpe d’Huez, but not via the most direct road. Indeed, participants will have to tackle a variant of the famous Marmotte, with the cols de la Croix-de-Fer, du Télégraphe, du Galibier, before an ascent of the col de Sarennes before descending back to the village of Huez and the final climb to the resort. In total, 170 km and 5400 m of elevation gain are announced.

Since 2025, a second Étape du Tour has been organized, following the route of a stage of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift. On August 6, male and female sportive riders will be able to test themselves between Vaison-la-Romaine and Mont Ventoux, over 120 km and 3000 m of elevation gain, culminating in the legendary climb of the Giant of Provence via Bédoin (15.7 km at 8.8%) after having covered the last 70 kilometers of the 7th stage of the Tour de France Femmes. A route that is nevertheless more accessible than the first Étape du Tour in l’Alpe d’Huez.
