Effective January 1, 2026, the UCI will enforce new standards for handlebars in road and cyclocross races with a mass start, following a decision by its Executive Committee in June. However, the International Federation has revised its initial decisions, with regulations aimed at establishing a minimum width for safety reasons that are less stringent than originally planned.
After consulting with stakeholders, including the cycling industry and the Equipment and New Technologies Commission, the following dimensions have been set:
- a minimum total width of 400 mm (outside to outside)
- a maximum flare of 65 mm
- a maximum inner width of 280 mm between the inner sides of the brake levers (compared to the 320 mm originally planned).
These measures, aimed at limiting speed through aerodynamic drag, could result in a revision of the brake lever limits in 2026 following further consultations with the relevant parties.
