The road season is coming to an end. Kigali offered an incandescent World Championships, France is preparing to thrill with Europe, and while the last rainbow jerseys are being distributed on the asphalt, another battle is about to begin: that of the undergrowth, the ploughed fields, and the mud pits. Cyclocross is reclaiming its rights. And this year, a question is on everyone’s lips: what if cyclocross became an Olympic discipline?

Imagine the scene…
A frozen circuit at the foot of the French Alps, in the middle of February 2030. Nice for ice, Courchevel, Méribel, La Clusaz or Le Grand-Bornand for snow… and why not an Olympic cyclocross circuit traced between fir trees, mud, and melting snow? The stands packed, Belgian, Dutch, French, Japanese flags fluttering in the cold air. And on the microphone, Anthony Colas and Steve Chainel shouting their passion:
“Van der Poel against Van Aert, once again! But look at Pidcock catching up! And behind them, Pim Ronhaar, Ryan Kamp, Thibau Nys… What a fireworks display!”
And for the women?
“Fem van Empel attacks in the sand! But Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado responds! Lucinda Brand hasn’t said her last word, and watch out for Line Burquier, the Frenchwoman dreaming of Olympic gold at home!”
A shiver. A roar. HISTORY.

Why is cyclocross already Olympic in spirit?
- Because it’s short, intense, dramatic: 50 minutes where every second counts.
- Because it’s easy to understand: even a novice spectator understands that you have to hold on, attack, avoid falling, overcome obstacles.
- Because it’s telegenic: mud, rain, snow, faces contorted by effort… Images that stick in your mind.
- Because it’s popular: beer, fries, music, fervor. The very DNA of sport that brings people together.
And at the Winter Games, it’s a no-brainer
In 2030, the Olympic Games will take place in the French Alps. A land of cycling, a land of mountains. The perfect opportunity to integrate a discipline that connects the two worlds: road and snow, mud and ice.
- The Winter Olympics sometimes lack diversity: too white, too “Nordic.” Cyclocross is an open door to the whole world.
- Yes, there isn’t necessarily snow… but there is mud, ice, cold. And if skateboarding found its place in summer, cyclocross can be the winter counterpart of cycling.
- In 2030, imagine: a podium with Van Aert, Van der Poel, Pidcock on one side… and on the other, the explosion of young generations: Thibau Nys, Pim Ronhaar, Line Burquier, Zoe Bäckstedt. A mix of legends and new faces.
We say stop to procrastination
Cyclocross deserves its rings. Not in 20 years. Not as a “test phase.” Now.
When the road sleeps, cyclocross awakens. When the cold closes stadiums, cyclocross opens its barriers. And when the IOC is looking for a new breath of fresh air, you just have to watch a World Cup start to understand:
Cyclocross at the Olympics, it’s written.
So, to your signatures, to your shares, to your shouts in the mud. Because in 2030, in the French Alps, we want to thrill together in front of the first Olympic cyclocross champion.
