Specialized launches the 4th generation of the Diverge

Specialized unveils the Diverge 4, a revolution in the gravel world, designed to combine speed, comfort, and versatility. This bike pushes the boundaries of escape with major innovations, such as very generous tire clearance for large tires, optimized storage space in the down tube, and lightweight, responsive suspension. And for the first time, the brand offers an aluminum version that incorporates all the features of the carbon model.

More than 10 years ago, Specialized launched the first version of the Diverge, its first gravel bike, initiating a trend that has continued to grow ever since, with a rapidly expanding market. Today, there are several ways to ride gravel, and several types of bikes. The Diverge is Specialized’s adventure or grand touring gravel bike, a model that is a bit heavier and less lively than the competition-oriented Crux, but also more comfortable. This fourth generation confirms these characteristics, with innovations designed to improve comfort and practicality, without overdoing performance.

It should also be noted that Specialized has not seen fit, for now at least, to launch an S-Works version, and is content with a carbon frame with Fact 9r fibers, not particularly light but very resistant. And for the first time, this Diverge 4 is also available in an aluminum version, with exactly the same characteristics as the carbon versions, for a much more accessible price.

Future Shock 3.0: Fluidity and Control

The Future Shock 3.0 system, already praised on the Roubaix SL8, offers 20 mm of hydraulic damping travel at the head tube, to absorb shocks without compromising responsiveness. Positioned between the stem and the head tube, it is adjustable, sealed, and suitable for all cyclists, ensuring smooth steering on all terrains, from cobblestones to gravel tracks.

Associated with the Future Shock system, the Roval Terra seatpost offers up to 18 mm of flex to absorb shocks thanks to its unique design. This progressive deformation under terrain irregularities stabilizes the rider, keeps the rear wheel glued to the ground, and maximizes every watt spent, while remaining lightweight (under 200 g).

SWAT 4.0: Smart Storage

The Diverge 4 excels in autonomy with the SWAT 4.0 system, which offers 5% more storage space than its predecessor. Integrated into the down tube, it allows you to carry a jacket, inner tubes, tools, gels, and more, with a 10% wider opening for easy access.

This system is also available on aluminum models, a world first. No other aluminum gravel bike offers this option.

Compatibility with 50 mm tire width

With tire clearance for up to 50 mm (700c) tires, the Diverge 4 guarantees grip, comfort, and robustness, ideal for fast events or adventures on rough terrain. The bike is thus compatible with tires from 32 to 50 mm, which enhances its versatility.

Furthermore, the new Diverge benefits from a SRAM UDH derailleur hanger for a more direct connection between the frame and the drivetrain. Note that the frame is compatible with all drivetrains that use a 47.5 mm chainline, but it is not compatible with traditional road drivetrains with a 43.5 mm chainline.

A Redesigned Geometry

The Diverge 4’s redesigned geometry, inspired by the Gravel Factory team and thousands of kilometers of testing, offers precise handling and increased stability. With a slacker head tube, an extended Reach, and a bottom bracket lowered by 5 mm, this bike provides a feeling of total immersion, for absolute confidence.

Diverge 4 Alloy: Accessible Performance

The Diverge 4 Alloy, made from lightweight and durable E5 aluminum, democratizes the innovations of the carbon model, including SWAT, a technical feat for an aluminum gravel bike. This frame, designed after four iterations, combines lightness, rigidity, and durability.
