Bonus Répar Cycle: help with maintaining your bike

Since July 2024, the Cycle Repair Bonus is making its big comeback in France, as part of the AGEC law (Anti-Waste for a Circular Economy). This scheme, funded by the eco-organization Ecologic, aims to encourage French people to repair their bikes rather than replace them, thus promoting sustainable and eco-responsible mobility. Here’s everything you need to know about this financial aid, with practical details on how to benefit from it.

What is the Cycle Repair Bonus?

The Cycle Repair Bonus is a subsidy designed to reduce the cost of bike repairs, whether they are classic, electric-assist (EAB), folding, cargo, mountain bikes, or tandems. The objective is twofold: to extend the lifespan of bicycles and promote their daily use, thereby reducing the carbon footprint associated with the production of new bikes.

Amount of aid:

  • €15 reduction for a repair costing a minimum of €65 including tax.
  • €30 reduction for a repair costing a minimum of €120 including tax.

Eligibility:

Bikes must belong to an individual (non-professional) and no longer be under legal conformity warranty.
Repairs must concern elements essential for the safety and use of the bike, such as brakes, drivetrain, tires, or integrated lighting. Removable EAB batteries are excluded.

Funding:

The aid is funded by the manufacturers’ eco-contribution, collected by Ecologic, as part of the EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility) scheme.

How to benefit from the Cycle Repair Bonus?

  • Check repair eligibility: consult the list of covered repairs on reparermonasl.bonusrepar.fr. For example, replacing brakes or tires is eligible, but not inflation, cleaning, or adding accessories like a kickstand or an anti-theft device.
  • Find a certified repairer: go to a Bonus Répar or QualiRépar approved workshop, identifiable via the Ecologic website or in stores like Decathlon, Intersport, Culture Vélo, or local workshops. These repairers are certified for their expertise after an audit.
  • Make a pre-application (optional): pre-register your application on reparermonasl.bonusrepar.fr to obtain a unique code. Otherwise, the application can be filled out directly in-store with the technician.
  • Bring your bike: present your bike and, if applicable, your pre-application code. The repairer verifies eligibility and provides a quote.
  • Enjoy the reduction: if the repair is eligible, the bonus (€15 or €30) is deducted directly from the invoice. The repairer is then reimbursed by Ecologic.
  • Repeatability: you can benefit from the bonus multiple times for different repairs, as long as the criteria are met.

Why is this comeback important?

Launched in July 2024, the Cycle Repair Bonus succeeds the “Coup de pouce vélo” (Bike Boost) scheme (2020-2022), which offered up to €50 per repair. Although the current amounts are more modest, the scheme has been simplified and extended to all types of bikes. In 2025, the network of certified repairers is expanding (4,708 repair points in France).

Impact and outlook

  • Ecological: by promoting repair, the bonus reduces waste and emissions related to the manufacturing of new bikes.
  • Economic: it supports local workshops and makes repair more accessible, even if some cyclists find the amounts insufficient for costly repairs (e.g., EABs).
  • Local complement: some local authorities offer additional aid (€30-50), which can be combined with the national bonus.
