Train like Tadej Pogačar: replicate his performance on stage twelve of the 2025 Tour de France
On the 12th stage of the 2025 Tour de France between Auch and Hautacam, Tadej Pogačar made a lasting impression by securing another victory with a decisive attack right from the foot of the final climb. According to the rider’s entourage, this success is far from accidental and is based on rigorous and scientific training. Amateur cyclists can now draw inspiration from his methods thanks to MyWhoosh, the free virtual cycling application.
High-level preparation
50 days before the Grand Départ, Pogačar was training in the Sierra Nevada, Spain, alongside his rival Jonas Vingegaard. This altitude training camp, in demanding conditions, laid the foundations for his performance on the twelfth stage of the Tour, according to his coaches and entourage.
Following the same model, MyWhoosh offers structured training sessions, developed with Pogačar’s performance team, including Dr. Iñigo San-Millán and Javier Sola, coach of UAE Team Emirates.
Pogačar-inspired sessions
MyWhoosh offers exclusive programs, titled “Train like Tadej,” which replicate the strategies used by the world champion. These sessions target the physiological systems essential for performing in key moments of a race.

Here are some examples:
- Short Climbs: This session combines Zone 2 efforts with dynamic VO2 max intervals, ideal for replicating Pogačar’s explosive attack on Stage 12.
- Criss-Cross Tempo Long: This program alternates 18-minute intervals between 100% and 80% of FTP (Functional Threshold Power), simulating the progressive effort deployed on Hautacam to distance the peloton. A 34-minute version is also available.
- Threshold Session: Designed to build endurance, it offers prolonged efforts just below the FTP threshold, perfect for climbs.
- Pre-Race Opener: This session prepares the legs the day before a competition, optimizing fast and explosive starts.
Dr. Iñigo San-Millán explains: “These workouts are designed to meet the demands of the terrain, developing the ability to attack, recover, and attack again, just as Tadej does.”
An accessible and precise approach
The effectiveness of Pogačar’s training relies on the combination of intensity, precision, and recovery. MyWhoosh makes these principles accessible to everyone with over 700 sessions, race simulations, virtual climbs, and programs adapted to the level of all practitioners. Whether you are an amateur or experienced cyclist, you can train like a champion from home.
