Adris, a Breton brand known for its excellent value for money, unveils an updated version of its Le Performance model, which was tested in late 2023. Named the Performance S2, this bike—shown here equipped with a Shimano 105 Di2 12-speed groupset and a pair of carbon wheels—embodies the ideal balance between performance, lightness, and affordability. This mid-range model offers (almost) everything needed to support the progress of amateur cyclists, whether they’re aiming for competitive or recreational riding. We put it to the test for you.

Within the Adris lineup, the Performance S2 complements the Vitesse model—which is stiffer and more aerodynamic—while drawing inspiration from its design, featuring sharper lines than the first Performance model we tested several months ago. Less extreme than the Vitesse, it retains remarkable versatility, adapting to a variety of terrains and riding styles.

Like its predecessor, the Performance S2 stands out for its one-piece UHM (Ultra-High Modulus) carbon frame, the result of a meticulous assembly of more than 800 carbon patches. This frame weighs 880 g (size S), and the complete bike weighs 7.67 kg without pedals in this 105 Di2 version, despite the Shimano groupset being known for being relatively heavy. This design ensures optimal stiffness, ideal for intense riding. Its aerodynamic design, inspired by the Vitesse, features a cockpit with fully internal cable routing, reducing drag and optimizing energy efficiency to save precious watts.

The ergonomic cockpit features handlebar widths tailored to the bike’s size (38 cm for an S frame), meeting modern aerodynamic standards with a tapered lower profile, similar to the Most handlebars found on Pinarello bikes. Compared to the first Performance model, the S2 features a more streamlined seatpost, adjusted by a clamp screw relocated beneath the top tube. This more aesthetically pleasing design eliminates the rubber cover from the previous model, which could sometimes become loose while riding. The seat tube, which follows the contour of the rear wheel, and the slightly more substantial front end of the bike optimize aerodynamic efficiency.

A complete lineup offering competitive value for the price
The Performance S2 is available in six versions, all based on the same frame kit:
- Performance S2 Dura-Ace Di2: integrated cockpit, Mavic Cosmic SLR 45 wheels, 6.95 kg, €8,999
- Performance S2 Dura-Ace Di2: integrated cockpit, Mavic Cosmic SL 45 wheels, 7 kg, €6,999
- Performance S2 Ultegra Di2: integrated cockpit, IKONIK 40 wheels, 7.3 kg, €5,699
- Performance S2 105 Di2: integrated cockpit, IKONIK 40 wheels, 7.7 kg, €4,799 (our test bike)
- Performance S2 105 Di2: classic cockpit, Mavic Ksyrium 30 Disc wheels, 8.1 kg, €3,899
- Performance S2 105: classic cockpit, Mavic Aksium Disc wheels, 8.4 kg, €2,999
Shimano 105 Di2: The Affordable Electronic Revolution
The Shimano 105 Di2 12-speed groupset marks a significant step forward for cyclists accustomed to mechanical drivetrains. This electronic version offers precise, smooth, and fast shifting, rivaling even the Dura-Ace and Ultegra Di2 groupsets. The disc brakes are also top-notch.

However, the 105 Di2 has a few limitations, notably the absence of buttons hidden beneath the brake levers—features found on higher-end groupsets for functions such as shifting gears or navigating a compatible computer. Through the Shimano E-Tube app, however, it allows for customization, such as the option to use synchronized or semi-synchronized shifting—a notable advancement for riders of all skill levels.

The range of gear combinations remains limited, however, with only two combinations of chainrings (52-36 and 50-34) and cassettes (11-34 and 11-36). This limitation may hold back competitive cyclists or young riders, especially since races now demand a wider variety of gear ratios. With a 52-36 and an 11-34, the Performance S2 does its best, but further optimization will be needed for competitive riding.

In this version, the Performance S2 is equipped with IKONIK carbon wheels featuring 40 mm rims, ensuring versatility and responsiveness. While not as high-performance as the Mavic Cosmic wheels found on the Dura-Ace versions, they far outperform the aluminum wheels on entry-level models, offering balanced handling and a moderate weight. However, the endurance-oriented Michelin Lithion tires limit efficiency. Higher-end tires would improve comfort, responsiveness, and performance.

Versatility at Its Best
With its streamlined frame, electronic shifting, disc brakes, and carbon wheels, the Performance S2 105 Di2 combines modernity and versatility to appeal to riders looking for a bike that can grow with them.

Compared to the 2023 version, this model feels less lightweight, weighing 800 g more and featuring heavier, less flexible tires, which affect its responsiveness during accelerations or changes in pace. It does, however, excel in stability. The well-distributed stiffness eliminates any feeling of weakness, whether in the head tube, bottom bracket, rear triangle, or wheels. On descents, the bike remains stable, with the 40-mm wheels offering low crosswind resistance. All in all, it’s a reassuring, well-balanced bike that rivals models equipped with high-end Shimano groupsets in terms of shifting and braking.

Stiff, the Performance S2 handles progressive sprints in the highest gear and remains solid when standing on the pedals on climbs. The steering, however, can feel heavy when leaning hard on the handlebars, as the Michelin Lithion tires lack responsiveness. Overall, the weight, stiffness, and entry-level tires make the bike less energy-efficient than a high-end model like the 2023 Performance. These differences—related to a few hundred grams and the quality of the tires—have a noticeable impact, offset by a more affordable price.

This bike is ideally suited for those just starting out with intensive riding or entering the world of competition. Its solid foundation opens up possibilities for gradual upgrades—high-end tires, lightweight inner tubes, and optimized gear ratios—to turn it into a more responsive and personalized machine.
Affordable Excellence
With the Performance S2 Shimano 105 Di2, Adris has successfully evolved its iconic model, combining a lightweight and stiff UHM carbon frame, a precise electronic drivetrain, and a sleek aerodynamic design. Versatile and accessible, this bike is designed for both aspiring competitors and passionate amateurs, offering a solid foundation for intensive or recreational riding.

Despite being slightly overweight and having tires that could be improved, the Performance S2 stands out for its balance, stability, and excellent value for the price. With a few tweaks—such as higher-performance tires or better-suited gear ratios—this bike from Brittany has everything it takes to become an ideal companion, capable of meeting the ambitions of even the most demanding riders while remaining affordable.
