2025 UCI Cycling Esports World Championships: A New Spectactular Format Unveiled by the UCI and MyWhoosh

The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) and MyWhoosh announce the details of the 2025 UCI Cycling Esport World Championships, which will be held on November 15 at the Space 42 Arena in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. This fifth edition promises an even more intense competition with a new format, following the success of the 2024 edition organized in the same city. The event will be broadcast live on the UCI and MyWhoosh YouTube channels, to the delight of fans worldwide.

A global and inclusive qualification process

Qualifications will begin soon (date to be confirmed) and will run until October. Of the 150 male and 150 female athletes participating in the semi-finals, 70% will be selected via National Federations, while the remaining 30% will access the semi-finals through public events organized by MyWhoosh. More details will be communicated shortly.

Semi-finals and final: a three-stage format

The semi-finals (October 3) and the final (November 15) will adopt an identical format, consisting of three thrilling events: Sprinter’s Paradise, Punchers’ Playground, and Last Rider Standing. These stages will test the physical and tactical skills of the riders.

Sprinter’s Paradise: eight laps on a 1.5 km circuit with points awarded at each intermediate sprint. Designed for explosive sprinters, the event will culminate in a decisive final sprint offering maximum points.

Punchers’ Playground: a 12 km race including steep climbs, two intermediate sprints, and two timed climbs (KOM). This stage will reward power and tactical acumen, with a decisive final sprint for the ranking.

Last Rider Standing: an elimination race on a 7.2 km climb with 554 m of elevation gain. Riders will be progressively eliminated at checkpoints, with points awarded based on ranking and survival time. The last rider standing will win the stage.

In the semi-finals, the top 20 men and women, determined by accumulated points, will qualify for the final in Abu Dhabi, joined by athletes benefiting from wild cards. In the final, the cumulative points from the three stages will determine the 2025 UCI World Champions.

A competition that lives up to expectations

David Lappartient, President of the UCI, enthused: “After a memorable 2024 edition, MyWhoosh pushes the boundaries with an innovative and demanding format for 2025. This championship promises a captivating spectacle, where only the best will claim the rainbow jersey.”
Matthew Smithson, Esport Director at MyWhoosh, added: “This championship embodies innovation and fairness. With a format designed to challenge athletes and captivate fans, we are proud to collaborate with the UCI to advance virtual cycling on the world stage.”

See you on November 15 for an event that is already shaping up to be a highlight of esport cycling!
