BMC, the Swiss high-end bicycle brand, unveils its new VAR0 series, a unique opportunity for cyclists to personalize their bike. Available now, this innovation is based on the Teammachine R 01 model, offering a 01-level carbon frame covered with a simple layer of varnish. This minimalist finish, named VAR0 (for “Variation Zero”), highlights the natural texture of the carbon while serving as an ideal base for custom paint.
What is VAR0?
The VAR0 frame uses 01-grade carbon, protected by a thin layer of varnish that preserves its raw appearance and lightness. This finish, the lightest offered by BMC, reduces frame weight by eliminating traditional paint layers. It provides a perfect platform for cyclists wishing to personalize their bike with a unique paint job, requiring only light surface preparation before application.
Initially available on the Teammachine R 01, the VAR0 frame and fork offer the same aerodynamic performance and stiffness as standard models, while being lighter. The model is available in sizes from 47 to 61 cm, with an extension planned to other BMC platforms in the future.
Creative freedom for cyclists
VAR0 appeals to both lovers of minimalist aesthetics and creative individuals. You can choose to ride the frame as is, equipping it with the components of your choice, or transform it into a work of art with custom paint. Although BMC does not offer a painting service, the brand recommends collaborating with professional painters to fully exploit VAR0’s potential.
To facilitate personalization, BMC provides creative files through its dealer network and will soon offer sticker kits via slikgraphics.com. VAR0 frames benefit from BMC’s standard warranty, provided that the mandatory stickers (serial number, UCI certification) remain in place. Note that the warranty does not cover costs related to custom paint.
An option for performance
For those who prioritize lightness, the Teammachine R Mpc remains BMC’s lightest and stiffest frame, thanks to advanced carbon manufacturing techniques. However, VAR0 offers an attractive alternative for those seeking both performance and personalization.
