CYCLO’TOUR CLASSIFIED – ROUND 1: CYCLO SUD BOURGOGNE

On April 27, 2025, the Cyclo’Tour Classified season kicked off with the Cyclo Sud Bourgogne, the first of six events scheduled this year. Nearly 500 cyclists gathered in the picturesque setting of Mâconnais and Tournugeois, on the slopes of the Massif Sud Bourgogne, for a day combining sport and discovery.

A highly anticipated return to the roads

The Cyclo Sud Bourgogne marked the end of the winter break for many enthusiasts, eager to get back on the roads after months of indoor training. Under the aegis of the Cycling Challenge, which brings together more than 14,500 cyclists across France each year for road, gravel, and mountain bike events, the atmosphere was friendly. Participants, equipped with gleaming bikes, showed their determination to reconnect with competition or to enjoy a guided ride.

Three routes for all levels

Cyclists had the choice between two formats: a timed mode for competitors seeking performance, and a touring mode for those preferring to ride at their own pace while admiring the landscapes. Three distances were offered:

  • CYCLO 51: 51 km, 700 m of elevation gain
  • CYCLO 84: 84 km, 1,400 m of elevation gain
  • CYCLO 122: 122 km, 2,000 m of elevation gain

A demanding and renewed course

This 2025 edition unveiled new routes, punctuated by emblematic cols such as the Col des Chèvres, the Col de la Percée, the Col de Brançion, and the Col de la Croix. Although the profile was not that of a high mountain stage, the succession of climbs and the hilly terrain tested the participants, requiring strategy and endurance.

A lively race

On the CYCLO 122 course, a trio broke away from the first kilometers, setting a sustained pace. Maxim Pirard, two-time cyclosportive world champion (2019 and 2021), won the sprint after 3h09min41s, at an average speed of 38.5 km/h. The presence of Nicolas Debeaumarché, a professional rider for Team Cofidis and a native of the region, added a special touch to the event.

The Cyclo Sud Bourgogne thus successfully launched the 2025 season of the Cyclo’Tour Classified, offering participants a memorable experience combining sporting performance and discovery of Burgundian treasures.
