As Earth Day 2025 approaches, Strava, the platform dedicated to athletes, highlights the rise of bike commuting in France through exclusive data collected in 2024. These figures underscore the concrete impact of cycling as a sustainable mobility solution, revealing a strong trend: cycling is establishing itself as an active, local, and essential choice.
Paris, the bike commuting champion
The French capital stands out with 14.5 million kilometers cycled for home-to-work commutes in 2024, thus avoiding 3.1 million kilograms of CO₂. In Greater Paris, 6 million kilograms of CO₂ were saved thanks to cyclists. These figures demonstrate a collective commitment, reinforced by a remarkable gender balance: in Paris, Hauts-de-Seine, and Val-de-Marne, men and women cycle almost equally to get to work.
Cycling, a new norm
Nearly 75% of recorded Strava commutes are for home-to-work travel, confirming that bike commuting is no longer a marginal practice but an ingrained habit. Tuesday at 8 AM marks the weekly peak of this two-wheeled revolution, illustrating the massive adoption of cycling as a mode of transport.
A measurable environmental impact
In 2024, Strava data shows that every pedal stroke counts: cyclists in Greater Paris contributed to a more sustainable future by significantly reducing carbon emissions. These figures, from Strava users and Strava Metro – an initiative to improve active mobility infrastructure – prove that daily actions can transform our relationship with the environment.
A call to action for April 22, 2025
On Earth Day, Strava reminds us that cycling is much more than a means of transport: it is a lever for building a greener future. Every bike ride, driven by intention, brings society closer to sustainable and responsible mobility.
