Testimonials about the Berk Lupina saddle

Choosing a saddle for your bike is often a crucial step. Although this choice is sometimes dictated by brands when buying a bike, the saddle remains a key component, determining both comfort and optimal power transfer. So if you can choose, why not opt for a bit of “originality”? To answer this question, let’s zoom in on an unusual model: the Berk Lupina.

Berk: Slovenian Excellence

Founded in 2014 in Slovenia by Jure Berk and Andraž Vehovar, “Berk-Vehovar Composites” has established itself as a specialist company in cycling components. Renowned for its ultralight products, the brand stands out for a clever blend of innovation, comfort, and quality.

The Lupina, their flagship saddle, is emblematic. It was even used by Tadej Pogacar during the 2018 Tour de l’Avenir, proving its effectiveness at the highest level.

But Berk doesn’t stop there. The brand also offers lightweight shoes and a carbon frame entirely handmade in Slovenia, customizable to your needs. An artisanal approach that is becoming rare in 2025!

A lightweight and high-performance saddle

At 104 g, the Berk Lupina is among the lightest saddles on the market. It saves about a hundred grams compared to many competing models.
100 g is the difference between two Specialized frames, one from the S-Works range and the other from the Pro range. But beyond the weight, its real challenge is to guarantee optimal comfort, essential for long rides.

To explore this model from all angles, we gathered testimonials from Nicolas and Rémi, two convinced users. Discover their opinions in the interview below.

User feedback: Nicolas and Rémi testify

What made you choose the Berk Lupina?

Nicolas: In 2020, I had a bike built, a Colnago V3RS, for which I was looking for some Premium, beautiful, and light components. My friend Rémi, who is a huge gear fan and rather at the forefront of everything that is lightest, told me about Berk saddles. I was immediately attracted by the very low weight (104 g), the super refined design, and especially the very positive feedback you can read on the Weight Weenies forum. Rémi also switched to the Berk Lupina for fairly similar reasons, mainly focusing on weight and manufacturing quality. The fact that many Weight Weenies members spoke highly of the product was also an essential element in the choice.

Rémi: The quality/weight/price ratio. The omnipresence of this saddle in light builds on forums.

Before switching to this saddle, what model were you using?

Nicolas: I was on a Fizik Arione 00.

Rémi: A Selle Italia Kit Carbonio.

Why did you choose a specific width?

Nicolas: When I bought my V3RS, I had a Retül fitting. The only interesting point I got from it was that I felt very comfortable on a 143 mm wide saddle that I was able to try during the fitting. The study also seemed to show that a slightly wider saddle might be even better, so I naturally opted for the 150 mm.

Rémi: I started with a 132 then a 144 (short) on which I feel better on long distances. I tested to find out which was the most comfortable for my backside.

How long have you been riding with the Lupina?

Nicolas: I bought my first Lupina in 2020, followed by a second in 2024. I only do road rides with it and have accumulated about 20,000 km on these saddles. I do all types of distances, from very short 1h30 rides to outings of more than 6 or 7 hours. I have also done sportives like the Volcanique and the Étape du Tour.

Rémi: I’ve been riding Lupina saddles for four years.

What is the comfort level?

Nicolas: Rémi and I have never had any complaints about comfort, despite the length of our respective rides. I find that it’s ultimately a component that almost makes you forget it’s there. I really like this feeling of immediately finding my saddle position after getting out of the saddle. Despite the Light aspect of the saddle, I have never felt any weakness or lack of rigidity in the rails. For me, it’s only positive. My Arione 00 was a very flat saddle that I liked for its racy / racer / light side, but I think it was not at all adapted to my morphology. The Berk Lupina is a saddle with a cutout in the perineal area. I see a big comfort gain there, given that my cockpit is set quite low and I have a significant pelvic tilt.

Rémi: Very comfortable once properly adjusted. I do the Étape du Tour on it without any problem.

What would be the areas for improvement?

Nicolas: It’s very difficult for me to answer this question as I find the product perfect. I would like to have the opportunity to try a 3D mesh saddle to realize the difference in comfort and support compared to my Berk. Maybe after that I could tell you what could be improved on the saddle. Then again, I don’t forget why I turned to Berk, one of the main reasons was the weight.

Rémi: A little more comfort?

To summarize, what are the model’s strengths and would you recommend it?

Nicolas: The strengths are clearly the manufacturing quality, its weight, its price which I find quite moderate for a component of this level. I like the somewhat exclusive side, you don’t see it on many bikes. My first Lupina was used in all weathers. So, the leather started to show marks after a while. Berk offers the possibility of refurbishing the foam and leather for a flat fee of €50, including return shipping. This is an undeniable advantage and a guarantee of the brand’s seriousness. It should also be noted that the relationship with the Berk brand is super easy, email responses arrive very quickly.

I would recommend it without any hesitation, and Rémi does the same to anyone who asks him questions about his saddle. I think everything has been said before: weight, design, quality, durability, price, after-sales service, exclusivity. I like to go on rides of 4h30 / 5h or even more quite regularly. I do one or two sportives with significant elevation gain per year. I would never have kept a saddle that would destroy my backside if it didn’t satisfy me. Rémi is embarking on the Haute Route Alpes next August, he is absolutely not considering a possible saddle change in preparation for this event.

Rémi: For the qualities, I would say above all: weight, comfort, and a fair price for a component of this quality. It’s a product I systematically recommend to everyone who asks me. It’s the best saddle I’ve ever had in terms of quality/weight/price.

At 3bikes.fr, the feeling is the same regarding the characteristics of the Berk Lupina with an excellent quality/price/weight ratio. At €319, although expensive for a saddle, the product is at the lower end compared to the competition from other brands for the same range of performance.

So, if you’re looking to save a few grams on your ride while relying on reliable and aesthetic components, why not explore their range? It might be the ideal opportunity to find the element to enhance your bike.
