Van Rysel launches XCR bikes for triathlon

Van Rysel, the Flemish brand specializing in high-performance bikes and equipment, owned by Decathlon, presents its new XCR TRI triathlon bikes. Co-designed with Swiss Side, an aerodynamics specialist with over 50 years of experience in Formula 1, the XCR bikes illustrate the expertise of Van Rysel’s development teams and push the limits of aerodynamic performance on two wheels.

Designed for speed, the XCR range of bikes offers minimal air resistance, making them among the fastest triathlon and time trial bikes on the market. The XCR is the result of 36 months of rigorous development, from early 2021 to October 2024, involving 14 prototypes and numerous iterations to refine every aspect of the bike’s performance. Each frame is composed of 486 carbon parts, illustrating the precision and attention to detail that guided every step of its design.

Earlier this year, the UCI XCR time trial bike was launched and has already shone at the highest level, winning gold medals with Ben O’Connor at the UCI World Championships and Bruno Armirail at the French Time Trial Championships. All three models were designed with Swiss Side, with every line and angle of the bike tested in the lab and in the field, ensuring maximum reduction of air resistance.

Swiss Side, founded in 2014 by Jean-Paul Ballard, former Head of Design for the Sauber F1 team, has used its expertise to develop the most innovative aerodynamic wheels and frames on the market. Having conducted extensive wind tunnel tests in collaboration with the time trial specialists of the Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale team, Bruno Armirail, Clément Berthet, and Felix Gall, the XCR was designed from the ground up so that every aspect of performance was evaluated and optimized to offer a competitive advantage through its aerodynamics.

No detail left to chance

The XCR TRI Ultegra Di2 frame is made of high-modulus carbon fiber, with a weight of 1490g for the frame and 490g for the fork in size M, allowing this bike to meet the demands of high-level cyclists or triathletes. The attention to detail, not only on how the bike cuts through the wind but also on its responsiveness and feel, makes this bike the ideal tool for going fast over almost any distance and terrain.

As bike position is essential for performance, Van Rysel, in its quest for the ultimate time trial and triathlon bikes, understood that adaptability is crucial to achieving the perfect position. With this in mind, the new XCR TRI Ultegra Di2 and XCR TRI Rival AXS models are equipped with a Van Rysel cockpit allowing for a multitude of adjustments, so that each cyclist can maximize their efficiency and comfort. For its part, the XCR UCI features Deda Jet One extensions, allowing athletes to adopt the best possible position while complying with UCI regulations.

Designed for Triathlon

Denis Chevrot, two-time Ironman European Champion, also played a key role in the development of the XCR TRI, ensuring that the bike met all the needs of an Ironman athlete. An important feature of the XCR TRI Ultegra Di2 is the toolbox that contains a multi-tool, an inner tube, and tire levers, for any mechanical issue on the road. In addition, a Bento box and a waste box have been attached to the top tube, allowing the athlete to store all the necessary nutrition for up to 6 hours of riding and dispose of any waste, while remaining in an aerodynamic position.

Finally, regarding hydration, bottles can be attached both to the cockpit and behind the saddle without impacting the overall aerodynamics of the bike, ensuring that the athlete is well-equipped and comfortable, while remaining as aerodynamic as possible.

A word from Jérémie Debeuf, Product Manager at Van Rysel:

“We are incredibly proud to present the all-new Van Rysel XCR TRI. With these new triathlon bikes, our goal was to push the boundaries of aerodynamics and comfort, creating a bike that offers unparalleled performance for elite athletes and serious competitors. We designed the frame to be one of the fastest models available, without compromising rider comfort. From the highly adjustable cockpit to the integrated storage solutions, every detail has been designed to meet the demands of modern triathletes and time trial riders. This bike is an invitation to understand the philosophy, expertise, and soul of the Van Rysel brand.”
