Hammerhead, an innovator in cycling technology, today announced the first major update to its Karoo bike computer, featuring an extended battery saving mode. Continuing Hammerhead’s commitment to delivering iterative software improvements throughout the life of its products, the battery saving mode allows cyclists to customize their Karoo to achieve over 35 hours of battery life.

“We know from talking to riders that ‘battery anxiety’ is a real issue for many athletes, and riders are always trying to maximize their battery life. To address this, our team has spent a lot of time testing and optimizing our operating system to give cyclists more control over their battery. Whether they’re spending long hours on the bike or simply want to charge their Karoo less, we want to give them the ability to customize the experience that best meets their needs.” – Grayson Pollock, Software Product Manager, Hammerhead.

With this update, cyclists will be able to choose between three different battery states:

● Default Ride Mode (15+ hours of battery in standard use cases).

● Battery Saving Mode (30+ hours of battery).

● Advanced Battery Savers (35+ hours of battery).

Battery Saving Mode:

● Use Karoo’s Battery Saving Mode to automatically turn off the screen – it will turn back on when you need it most (e.g., turn-by-turn directions, CLIMBER alerts).

● By default, the screen stays on for 35 seconds after an event. Riders can customize the timer in their battery saving settings menu.

● Riders can customize which events trigger the screen to turn on. Customize “Screen Triggers” in the battery saving settings.

● By default, using Battery Saving Mode caps your screen’s maximum brightness at 45%.

● Store Battery Saving Mode settings in ride profiles for easy access, or configure them on the fly.

Battery Saving Mode with Advanced Battery Savers:

● Get the most out of Karoo by configuring additional Advanced Battery Saver settings.

● Cap maximum brightness in Advanced Battery Saver settings for greater battery life.

● Set your preferred maximum screen brightness to save additional battery when using Battery Saving Mode.

● Now enable the “Slower Processing” feature. Enabling “Slower Processing” will slow down your Karoo’s CPU and processing speed to save battery. To enable this feature, click on the “Advanced Battery Saver” menu.

A number of optimizations have also been made with this update to reduce the time required for the first GNSS acquisition on Karoo. This will improve the time to first fix once you start Karoo.

Other fixes made to Karoo and Karoo 2:
  • Surface type breakdown is now displayed for imported routes. Previously, surface type breakdown only appeared for routes created on Dashboard.
  • Added additional workout information before the ride on Karoo. You can now see the zone your workout focuses on, as well as the time you will spend in each zone during the workout.
  • Improved off-route CLIMBER to work when rerouting is disabled.
  • Improved Bluetooth pairing flow to show the verification screen regardless of whether you are on the “Phone Pairing” screen on Karoo.
  • You can now tap Control Center overlays to make them disappear faster after performing an action in the Control Center.
Karoo and Karoo 2 Bug Fixes:
  • Fixed an issue where K2 was not detected after the iOS 18 update. All other pairings and operations are restored with this update.
  • Improvements to CLIMBER so that bridges no longer cause climbs to split.
  • Fixed an issue where Nicaragua maps could not be downloaded.
  • Fixed an issue where the radar sidebar would get stuck when the screen turned on/off.
