For 10 years, Strava community members who have chosen to record their daily commutes on the platform have anonymously fed the Metro dataset. They thus contribute to helping urban planners and transport experts understand mobility patterns, identify development opportunities, and evaluate the impact of infrastructure changes to encourage non-motorized travel and offer more opportunities to the community.
Four years ago, Strava made Metro freely accessible to partner organizations dedicated to improving cycling and pedestrian experiences. Strava Metro currently collaborates with over 3,500 urban planners, government agencies, and infrastructure decision-makers worldwide, influencing nearly a billion people. With this new initiative, Strava aims to give academics access to crucial data, while stimulating innovation in the field of non-motorized transport.
- The Strava Metro platform for one year: use of comprehensive data to support research.
- Interdisciplinary collaboration opportunities: connection with academic researchers, transport experts, urban planners, environmental scientists, and public health professionals.
- Support from the Strava Metro team: dedicated online training sessions and follow-up meetings to ensure project success.
Selected candidates will be informed of their admission in early 2025. All applications will be reviewed by a Strava committee, which will award and score successful admissions for the 2025 cohort.
