The 2024 UCI Cycling Esports World Championships are getting ready

The results of the public qualification process for the 2024 UCI Cycling Esports World Championships have been confirmed. The successful athletes, coming from both public qualifiers and national federations, are preparing for the semi-finals on September 6. The public qualifiers, which took place on the MyWhoosh platform over three distinct days, used a points system covering two stages, ensuring that all riders had the opportunity to secure one of the 30 spots per men’s and women’s category.

Taking into account riders qualified through national federation qualifiers, over 120 female athletes and 130 male athletes have been designated to advance to the semi-finals, which will take place virtually on September 6.

After that, the top 20 riders from each category will compete in the in-person final in Abu Dhabi on October 26. To ensure fairness, all athletes invited to the in-person final will receive an Elite Justo 2 indoor trainer, the official supplier of MyWhoosh. This way, all finalists will be accustomed to the equipment they will use during the event.

As the exclusive organizer of the UCI Cycling Esports World Championships from 2024 to 2026, MyWhoosh is committed to creating an inclusive platform for competitors worldwide. MyWhoosh is responsible for all aspects of the UCI Cycling Esports World Championships, including course design, rule creation, and the organization of the in-person finals in Abu Dhabi.

Semi-Final Details and Points System

The semi-finals will consist of two stages, where riders will compete virtually remotely, provided they are verified and use equipment compliant with MyWhoosh Esports Regulations. Riders must be affiliated with a national federation and available to join a live stream for the event.

Event schedule:

The event uses two of the stages from the upcoming final, with both races based on a points system. The top 20 riders from each category at the end of both stages will qualify (subject to verification) for the in-person final in Abu Dhabi.

Semi-Final Stage 1:

This stage features a 9 km circuit with a significant 1.5 km climb. Points will be awarded at three key moments of the course:

Foot of the climb: Points awarded to the first 20 riders to reach the foot of the climb, starting with 20 points for first place and decreasing by 1 point for each subsequent rider (20, 19, 18, etc.).

Summit of the climb: Similarly, the first 20 riders to reach the summit of the climb receive the same points.

Finish line: The finish line is strategically positioned beyond the summit of the climb, requiring riders to conserve energy for the final effort. Points at the finish line are awarded as follows: 40 points for first place, 38 for second, 36 for third, and so on, down to 2 points for 20th place.

Semi-Final Stage 2:

Stage 2 comprises four laps of a 4 km circuit, with a 12% climb leading to the finish line. Points are awarded at the end of each lap, and are doubled on the final lap.

Laps 1-3: Points are awarded to the first 20 riders across the finish line on each lap (20 points for first, 19 for second, and so on, down to 1 point for 20th).

Lap 4 (Final lap): Points are doubled on the final lap, with 40 points for first place, 38 for second, 36 for third, and so on, down to two points for 20th place.

This points system ensures that consistent performance across all stages is rewarded, while also offering strategic opportunities to score valuable points at key moments of the race.
