On August 10, at 9 p.m., three friends will stand side by side on the starting line of the Marathon pour Tous (Mass Participation Marathon) during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Among them, Sébastien Chery, a dedicated firefighter and marathon enthusiast, will represent Orange with a story that embodies the very spirit of the Olympic Games: resilience, self-transcendence, and hope.

Last April, Sébastien came close to the brink of existence. A victim of a serious accident, he was declared clinically dead. But against all odds, and as if by a miraculous confluence of vital forces, he returned to life. His recovery is a source of inspiration for all who know him, a living testament to the resilience of the human spirit. This courageous firefighter, once on the edge of oblivion, now defies medical prognoses with his determination and indomitable courage.

Sébastien has always harbored an ardent passion for marathons and the Olympic Games. For him, running a marathon transcends a simple sporting challenge; it is a celebration of life, a manifestation of his will to surpass himself and triumph over adversity. Participating in the “Marathon pour Tous” during these Olympic Games embodies the fulfillment of his dearest dream, a powerful symbol of his rebirth and his love for sport.
Alongside Sébastien will be Marc Lozano, who himself earned his bib in a qualifying event, and myself, Jeff Tatard, a consultant for various sports media. The three of us share a common mission: to share Sébastien’s inspiring story and illustrate to the whole world that hope and perseverance can prevail in the face of the most desperate circumstances. We are also honored to have two exceptional godmothers for our project: Françoise Parage, the head of Frontrunners at Asics, and Mekdes Woldu, an international athlete and Olympic selection, who will run the actual Olympic marathon on the same course the next day, Sunday, August 11, at 8 a.m.

Orange, a global leader in the telecommunications sector, was deeply moved by Sébastien’s story. Thanks to their unwavering support as the main sponsor of this event, we will approach this marathon with renewed conviction. Our goal is to transform this race into a universal source of inspiration, where every stride Sébastien takes resonates as an ode to hope and resilience.

The “Marathon pour Tous” will not simply be a race. It will be the stage where one of the most moving stories of these Olympic Games will be written. A story reminding everyone that life can offer a second chance, that every obstacle can be overcome with determination, and that sport is a powerful vector of healing and rebirth.

We invite everyone to join our journey, to witness this extraordinary adventure. May these Olympic Games embody much more than a simple sporting competition, but a profound source of inspiration for all those who face life’s challenges. May this race symbolize the very essence of existence: unwavering perseverance, constant surpassing of one’s own limits, and the absolute certainty that hope, as long as it remains in our hearts, makes everything possible. Let us be the architects of our dreams and the artisans of our destiny, keeping in mind that the light of hope shines eternally, even in the darkest moments.
