Positioned in the mid-range, the Giant Rev Elite helmet draws inspiration from the more upscale Rev Pro model, offering ventilation and comfort, in addition to essential protection thanks to the MIPS Evolve Core system. Review of an affordable helmet that is quickly forgotten once on your head.

In terms of features, the Giant Rev Elite benefits from 18 vents whose effectiveness is quickly felt, right from the first few hundred meters on the road. It offers three adjustment positions for the occipital retention at the back, and a classic adjustment via a notched dial. It should be noted, however, that the Rev Elite runs small and it may be necessary to choose one size up from your usual size. I normally wear an S, but here the fit is naturally quite tight, and for example, I don’t have enough room to slip a cap under the helmet if needed with this size.

Retention is provided by soft and lightweight adjustable straps made from recycled fabric, with an antimicrobial treatment. At the front of the helmet, there are quite effective frontal pads to limit sweat runoff into the eyes. Inside, IONIC+ technology on the pads incorporates silver fiber fabric for excellent breathability and antibacterial properties.

Finally, the Rev Elite benefits from MIPS Evolve Core technology, which is based on attaching a low-friction layer to the inner surface of the liner to absorb energy in the event of an impact. This layer can move in all directions to help redirect rotational motion of the head during certain angular impacts. Once worn on the head, the helmet has a little freedom of rotation or front-to-back movement, a few millimeters. This is a common feature on high-end helmets, but not always present at the Rev Elite’s price point of €145. Moreover, this helmet received a 5/5 safety rating from the independent testing laboratory Virginia Tech, one of the references in the field.

Available in three sizes (S, M, L) and three colors (white, black, blue), the Giant Rev Elite is also quite aesthetically pleasing in my opinion, with a sleek line and a low profile. It therefore pairs perfectly with smaller faces. Its verified weight of 260g makes it a highly recommendable model, especially considering its selling price.

On the road with the Giant Rev Elite MIPS helmet
As I mentioned above, the Rev Elite runs really small. When I put it on, I have no room for adjustment. However, even if it seems tight at first, I didn’t notice any pressure points or pain over the kilometers, even when riding in the heat.

The overall ventilation seems effective, as I could feel cool drafts on my head when changing direction and catching the headwind. Except in extreme heat, the frontal pad plays its role well, and I didn’t experience any discomfort with sweat running down my face.

The retention straps and the helmet frame also do not interfere with the arms of glasses. I tried the helmet with several pairs from different brands, and I didn’t feel any discomfort in this regard. Finally, the placement of the vents on the front allows for easy placement of glasses arms above the helmet, in case of rain or climbing in the heat. In short, the helmet’s shape is quite well thought out in this respect, although I would have liked a retention device for the arms, which are not perfectly held in this position.

Ultimately, this Giant Rev Elite MIPS helmet proves to be a very pleasant surprise for a model at this price. It is an aesthetic, well-finished, fairly light, and well-ventilated helmet, likely to suit many riders, although care should be taken to choose the right size to avoid potential discomfort.
