Former professional cyclist Jan Ullrich is auctioning off his legendary Pinarello racing bike, along with his signed yellow jersey, on buycycle.com. All proceeds will go to programs for young cyclists.
A historic event is about to take place: Jan Ullrich, the famous former professional cyclist and German winner of the 1997 Tour de France, is auctioning off his original racing bike with the help of the used bike platform Buycycle. All proceeds will go to cycling programs for young people and aspiring racers.
The auction will take place exclusively on buycycle.com, Europe’s largest marketplace for used bikes, and began on June 25, 2024.
The 1998 Telekom Pinarello team racing bike is in perfect original condition. Jan Ullrich himself says he associates it with both the hardest training sessions and the most historic races of his career. All components, including the handlebar tape, Continental tires, Campagnolo Record Titanium groupset, and the remarkable Telekom paint job, are original. A little secret hidden in this iconic bike? The Sigma bike computer is installed: Ullrich said he was curious to see how many annual kilometers were recorded on the bike computer. “I hope for something like a little over 40,000 km,” Jan said with a wink. May the highest bidder prove him right or wrong!
Jan Ullrich emphasized: “Supporting the next generation of cyclists is close to my heart. With this auction, I want to give young talents the chance to realize their dreams and further promote the sport I love so much,” he told buycycle in an interview at his museum in Bad Dürrheim.
The auction begins on June 25 and lasts for the entire duration of the Tour de France. Interested bidders can submit their offer on buycycle and not only acquire a unique piece of cycling history, but also contribute to the promotion and encouragement of young cycling talents, as, without exception, all proceeds are donated to programs for young cyclists.
“We are proud to be part of this great initiative and to support the auction of a historic racing bike. This auction is a highlight for all cycling fans. We believe that our reach will generate enough attention to raise a significant sum for aspiring young cyclists,” says Theo Golditchuk, one of the founders of buycycle.
