A new colorway for Remco Evenepoel’s Specialized S-Works Tarmac SL8

Specialized presents a new colorway named Liquid Metal Edition for Remco Evenepoel’s S-Works Tarmac SL8, which the Belgian rider will debut on June 2 at the Critérium du Dauphiné and will likely use for his first Tour de France.

Remco Evenepoel debuted his new bike during his training camp in Spain in May.

A month and a half after his serious crash at the Tour of the Basque Country, Remco Evenepoel returns to competition at the Critérium du Dauphiné, which starts this Sunday, June 2. Just before setting off to conquer his first Tour de France, where he is already considered one of the big favorites, despite what promises to be very high-level competition.

This is not a metal frame, but carbon!

For this second part of the season, Specialized has decided to prepare a special colorway for the bike of the Belgian rider from the Soudal-Quick Step team. “A bike is just a bike until the right athlete gets on it. Here, the molten paint zones that evoke iron come from Remco’s contact points. The top of the seatpost, the bottom bracket shell, and the cockpit all glow with a pearl of molten colors. As Remco’s energy flows through these areas, the metal begins to take shape and harden to form a fine chrome and finally a black-tinted front section, reminiscent of cast iron,” says Tom Briggs, Senior Graphic Designer at Specialized.

The metallic reflections are magnificent.

The Tarmac SL8 frame weighs only 685 g, and it is designed to excel on one of Remco Evenepoel’s favorite playgrounds: the high mountains. The Specialized team states that they do not want to sacrifice performance for graphics. That’s why they developed a rigorous painting technique called PVD (physical vapor deposition) which adds less weight than conventional paint to create the “molten colors” effect.

Remco Evenepoel uses a zero-setback seatpost and a Power Mirror saddle.

The goal is to maintain a bike at the UCI weight limit of 6.8 kg, with a Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 groupset, Roval Rapide CLX II or Alpinist CLX II wheels, Turbo range tires, and an S-Works Power with Mirror saddle.

The Roval Rapide cockpit also benefits from this special paint.
