Cervélo unveils a new Áspero

Cervélo announces that while they may not have been the first to create a gravel bike, they definitely believe they created the fastest. In 2019, the Áspero took the world by storm, bringing Cervélo’s DNA to the gravel world: speed. Since then, gravel bikes have grown, fragmented, and begun to closely resemble the road and mountain bikes that spawned them, with suspension forks, mounts for just about everything, and increasingly wide tires.

Bringing speed to the gravel world

The new Áspero stays true to those early days! Simple, gravel-focused, but with a few improvements – a threaded bottom bracket, cleaner cable routing, and a UDH-compatible derailleur hanger for those who want to use the new SRAM drivetrains. And it’s faster, of course! Cervélo has reduced drag by three watts during the redesign process. The chainstays have also been lowered to give a little more compliance at the rear, and slightly reduce front-end stiffness to make the last hours of a long ride less arduous.

Between these lowered chainstays, the brand has added a little more tire clearance for muddy rides.

A 45 mm tire can be mounted on the Áspero. The Áspero is designed for 42 mm tires with an additional 3 mm of clearance beyond what ISO standards require, but if you’re the optimistic type (or if your rides are generally dry), you can try mounting 45 mm tires.

These are a large number of seemingly minor improvements, but they add up. The result is a bike that looks a lot like the original Áspero, but is faster, more comfortable, and more versatile.

Key features:

-425 mm chainstays, 5 mm longer than the previous model for more stability, but identical “fit” to the old Áspero

-Lower overall height, more sloping top tube and lowered chainstays for more comfort.

-Slimmed down tube for a more forgiving and versatile ride

-Increased tire clearance

-Adjustable trail to modify handling

-700 x 42 mm tire with 7.4 mm clearance, still 650b compatible (with 48 mm clearance)

-Semi-integrated cable routing thanks to the D-shaped steerer tube

-ST36 cockpit like on the Soloist, compatible with the fully integrated ST31 from the Caledonia-5 or the Rouvida in Road version

-Increased chainring clearance

-Maximum 46-tooth chainring or 52/36 double

-SRAM UDH hanger

-BBRIGHT T47A bottom bracket

-Frame 1141 g, fork 452 g (Size 56)
