Zipp offers a new disc wheel, the Super-9, available in two versions: for road, designed for disc brakes, and for track.
Source: Press Release

The first product Zipp offered in 1988 was a disc wheel. Under these circumstances, redesigning the foundational aerodynamic wheel was an ambitious task. Efficient power transfer, stiffness, and durability are the three characteristics that allow the Super-9 to go faster. During the development of this wheel, Zipp dedicated many hours to testing seven prototypes in a wind tunnel and comparing them with numerous high-end disc wheels available on the market. For testing, Zipp selected eight of the most popular time trial and triathlon bike frames to confirm the versatility and speed of the Super-9 in the most diverse conditions and courses.
Super-9 Tubeless Disc Wheel for Disc Brake
You’re faster by being smoother with the Zipp Super-9 Tubeless Disc Brake on a modern triathlon or time trial bike. Among the lightest disc wheels on the market, the Super-9 undeniably enhances your modern triathlon or time trial bike. Its sleek shape is wide, and its sidewalls are parallel from the hub, tapering inward as they meet the hookless rim bed. Thanks to the design and carbon fiber laminate of Zipp’s TSE (Total System Efficiency) technology, the Super-9 disc wheel is ready for the new era of wider tires and reduced inflation pressures for time trial and triathlon.

Zipp starts from a simple observation to apply the TSE principle to wheel design: Efficiency equals speed, whether the road surface is perfect or not. The combination of the Zipp wheel’s laminate with a wider rim profile and an optimized tire interface helps you overcome the four obstacles to speed: wind resistance, gravity, rolling resistance, and vibration losses. Guided by TSE technology, Zipp has redesigned the Super-9, from the rim-tire interface to the ceramic bearings. This approach has limited the energy loss produced by the cyclist. If you are a triathlete, this means you will have more energy left for the run. The Super-9 pairs perfectly with Zipp’s current tubeless front wheels.
Popular wisdom held that time trialists or triathletes should inflate their bike tires to the maximum to promote speed. They would then feel every bump, and their bike would bounce. By offering a hookless rim manufactured with TSE technology, Zipp allows cyclists who choose the Super-9 to understand that a disc wheel doesn’t necessarily have to feel harsh to be fast. Thus, the Super-9 achieves the highest speeds with 28mm tubeless tires inflated to a lower pressure than traditional pressure. In addition to speed gains, this disc wheel, significantly stiffer and more durable than the previous version, will allow you to achieve better control in cornering.

To maximize speed on the bike, it is crucial to identify the optimal pressure. To help you use the correct pressure, the Super-9 comes with the TyreWiz 2.0 tire pressure sensor. This invisible and perfectly balanced integrated sensor will let you know at all times if you are within the desired pressure range. Inflation is simplified thanks to a revised valve access. What’s more, the disc wheel has a revised valve access port. Stickers are no longer necessary. The Super-9 is built around a high-end ZR1 hub with ceramic bearings and 66 points of engagement.

Super-9 Track Clincher Disc Wheel
The Super-9 Track Clincher Disc Wheel, available for front and rear, offers track racers exceptional levels of stiffness, aerodynamic efficiency, rolling efficiency, power transfer, and lightness. The Super-9 Track Clincher Disc Wheel incorporates a major evolution in wheel technology developed for this discipline: the rim has been specially designed for the velodrome. The rim adopts a small hook tire bead for aerodynamic efficiency. A carbon laminate specially developed for the track reinforces the stiffness of the entire wheel. With its sleek, speed-enhancing shape, the Super-9 Track Clincher Disc Wheel achieves the highest speeds with 23mm tires on the velodrome. The disc wheel optimizes aerodynamics, power transfer, stiffness, lightness, and durability. The wheel remains flat from its widest point to the hub and has an exclusive textured surface. This allows it to reach unprecedented speeds on the track. Super-9 Track Clincher Disc Wheels are made to order. A production lead time of 90 days from the order date should be expected.
