On Sunday, October 13, road cycling will make its debut with a 130.9 km course (1,900 m of positive elevation gain). More than just a route, it’s a true journey into the heart of the splendors of the Var hinterland. After a start located approximately 5 minutes from the Fréjus nature base, participants will take beautiful roads winding between the famous red rocks. Further on, they will catch sight of the Roquebrune rock. After about 60 kilometers, the road will gradually climb, rewarded by passing through Seillans, Mons (at the 75th kilometer, the highest point of the event at 900 m altitude with one of the three aid stations offered, guaranteeing an XXL panorama), and Fayence, at the 90th kilometer. These are typical villages of the region with their houses built on hillsides, all listed among the most beautiful villages in France. On the way back and on a predominantly downhill profile, cyclists will head towards Bagnols-en-Forêt, into the Gorges du Blavet, with their ochre cliffs and lush vegetation. They will then reach the finish line, on the Fréjus nature base, by the sea.
GRAVEL: CANYON RANDO GRAVEL ORIGINS, ON THE TRAIL OF THE PIONEERS
Booming in the cycling world, gravel has been a part of the Roc d’Azur since 2016. The 40th edition of the Roc d’Azur will be marked by the appearance of the Canyon Rando Gravel Origins, Thursday, October 10. Forty years after the beginnings of the Roc d’Azur, this new 70 km event (2,200 m of positive elevation gain) will start from the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, where, in 1984, 7 riders set off, gathered around Stéphane Hauvette. An event to recall the rich history of the Roc d’Azur. Gravel enthusiasts can also tackle the Canyon Rando Gravel Estérel (69.4 km, 1,250 m D+) and the Canyon Gravel Roc (69.6 km; 1,660 m D+) as in previous years.
THE ROC D’AZUR ACCESSIBLE TO ALL WITH THE ELECTRIC RANDO D’AZUR
The grand finale of the week, Sunday’s Roc d’Azur will once again bring together thousands of riders. Among them, some world stars of cross-country mountain biking will compete to add their name to the list of winners. This year, the last wave of the Roc d’Azur event will be followed for the first time by the Electric Rando d’Azur, an electric touring version of the event.
THE ROC D’AZUR FOR EVERYONE: TO EACH THEIR DESIRES, PREFERENCES, PRACTICE
A multitude of events for all levels, all ages, and all practices
The numerous randonnées (Rando Estérel, Ekoï Rando Odyssey, Alltricks.com Rando noire, Rando déguisée…), in traditional MTB or electric version, will also allow those for whom the stopwatch and competition are not priorities to fully enjoy the Roc d’Azur. Because the Roc d’Azur is also an opportunity to share good times with family, the Rando Famille, the Kid Roc, or the Kid Roc Draisienne will allow for beautiful memories to be made.
Triathlon, trail, and walking on the program
The 2024 novelties enrich a program that for several years has never stopped evolving by welcoming new disciplines. Introduced in 2012, the Tri Roc, individually but also in relay, is today a highlight of the Roc d’Azur and is particularly awaited by triple-effort enthusiasts, delighted to be able to dive into the Mediterranean (1,500 m) before riding in the Maures massif (25.6 km) and then running on the nature base (9.6 km). With courses of 16, 22, 32, and 43 km around the Roquebrune-sur-Argens rock, the trail events quickly attracted runners. In the Roc d’Azur family for the second year, walking (courses of 8, 13, and 22 km) has also found its audience.
Whether in the Maures massif, in Saint-Raphaël, in Roquebrune-sur-Argens, in the Estérel massif, in the heart of Estérel Côte d’Azur Agglomération, all the proposed events offer the promise of an intense day!
