Milan-San Remo, with its record average speed of nearly 46 km/h, masterfully launched the Classics season. Now, it’s time for Belgium with Gent-Wevelgem, covering a total of 253 km. Exactly one week before the Tour of Flanders, the event serves as a dress rehearsal and a status check of the forces at play on a course that is certainly less demanding than the Ronde. With its last difficulty, the Mont Kemmel, located 35 km from the finish, the outcome is often decided in a sprint among a small group of strong riders. In 2023, Belgian Wout van Aert (absent this year) dominated the race with all his class and handed the victory on a silver platter to his French teammate Christophe Laporte. What will happen this year? Dutch world champion Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Deceuninck), very prominent in the Primavera, is one of the big favorites, as is Dane Mads Pedersen (Lidl-Trek), unless Christophe Laporte (Team Visma / Lease a Bike) outmaneuvers these two giants and doubles his tally. To follow the race closely, find the course details, map, profile, list of registered riders, and live TV broadcast times for this 86th edition.
