Canyon Bicycles today signed a historic agreement with Mathieu van der Poel, one of the world’s top riders, reigning road and cyclocross world champion, thus confirming the long-term future between the Dutch athlete and his chosen bike brand. Van der Poel traveled to Canyon’s headquarters in Koblenz, Germany, on Monday, March 18, to sign the contract.
The two-time world champion has a phenomenal track record on Canyon bikes, with 163 victories in road, cyclocross, and mountain biking since late 2017, when his partnership with the German brand began.

A collective desire to keep pushing boundaries
Canyon is doubling down on its partnership with this unprecedented contract duration for a modern-era cyclist, to ensure van der Poel’s place in the pantheon of all-time greats. Mathieu van der Poel’s mindset is shared by Canyon, which, since its inception in 2002, has invested in athletes and high-level cycling to be at the forefront of technological innovations.
Nicolas De Ros Wallace, CEO of Canyon Bicycles, states: “At the heart of this collaboration is a collective desire to constantly push boundaries and elevate performance. Mathieu’s pursuit of excellence is a true source of inspiration for our engineers and product development teams.”

Mathieu van der Poel, for his part, says: “Canyon has been an incredible partner. We have developed bikes that have helped me succeed in the classics, world championships, and Grand Tours. But I remain incredibly hungry for success. I have several deadlines in sight, including the Paris Olympics this summer.” Echoing his feelings at the finish line of the 2024 Cyclocross World Championships, Mathieu van der Poel emphasized the shared ethos and trust that lead to race-winning bikes: “On the road, in cyclocross, and in mountain biking, Canyon’s R&D teams put everything into creating race-winning bikes, and I am proud to contribute to the development of these products. We share the same winning mentality, and with this new contract, we are fully aligned on our ambitions for the next stage of my career.”
Canyon’s commitment to Mathieu van der Poel is a strong sign of the group’s investments in providing the world’s best athletes with the best possible equipment to continue winning the most prestigious races. Roman Arnold and GBL, as co-owners of the company, align with this long-term vision.
In a separate agreement, Canyon has extended its terms with Alpecin-Deceuninck.
Philip and Christoph Roodhooft, members of the Alpecin-Deceuninck team management: “Since we signed with Canyon, we have had a long-term vision to create the very first multidisciplinary team, built with the best and most talented riders of their generation. This is only possible with the support of partners who manufacture world-class high-performance products and who share the same hunger for victory. Our new contract with Canyon is an important step in the future development of all talented riders joining Alpecin-Deceuninck and Fenix-Deceuninck riders.”
After making his road debut at the last Milan-Sanremo, Mathieu van der Poel will continue his season at the Belgian classics GP E3 and Gent-Wevelgem, followed by the spring monuments, the Tour of Flanders, Paris-Roubaix, Amstel Gold Race and Liège-Bastogne-Liège.
