Specialized works with the fastest racers in the world to create products that help them win the most prestigious races. Then the brand makes these products available to the widest possible range of cyclists so they can benefit from the same performance advantages as the pros. The S-Works TT5 helmet is an excellent example of this Made in Racing approach. Remco Evenepoel and Kasper Asgreen of the Soudal Quick-Step team spent countless hours in Specialized’s wind tunnel to bring to life the fastest time trial helmet it has ever produced.

Using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software, the Helmet Research and Development department redesigned the time trial model. By bringing the rear of the helmet closer to the rider’s shoulders, the turbulence that creates aerodynamic drag is reduced. For a cleaner internal airflow, the helmet is built around a cranial shell that compresses the cyclist’s ears and hair for optimized aerodynamics. The result is 26 seconds gained on Remco’s time trial in a race where victory is decided by 10 seconds. The S-Works TT5 helmet is equipped with a Class 1 optical visor offering no distortion when looking at the road, unlike traditional visors which are mostly heat-formed from plastic. The visor features a hydrophobic coating to facilitate moisture evacuation in bad weather on race days, as well as a high-quality anti-fog coating (EN166).

The Occipital Retention System optimizes comfort by adjusting the fit to the shape of the skull. The helmet angle can also be customized to facilitate compatibility with eyewear. The adjustable Tri-Fix web splitters offer increased comfort to the cyclist thanks to a customized fit. Its latest evolution is reduced by 10 mm to limit strap noise.

MIPS Air Node technology is integrated directly into the helmet padding, with a low-friction layer designed to reduce rotational forces transmitted to the head during certain oblique impacts. Specialized’s exclusive development work involved adding perforations to maximize breathability, performance, comfort, and weight savings.
