The UCI has announced it is preparing to regulate the position of brake levers, which many riders angle inwards to gain aerodynamic advantage, but which the international federation says poses safety problems.
In a statement, the UCI announced it is working with equipment manufacturers “to create a clear regulation regarding the extreme inward inclination of brake levers which limits the braking capacity of riders and constitutes a modification of the product beyond its intended use“.
As of 2024, this type of positioning will be limited, according to the international federation. However, the exact form of this limitation is not yet known. A more precise new regulation is expected for 2025, “requiring compliance with the installation guidelines established by brake lever manufacturers“.
