Stéven Le Hyaric: his heroic desert crossing for the planet

Three years ago, a breath of intrepidity animated the spirit of Stéven le Hyaric, embarking him on the extraordinary epic of Project 666 (6 continents, 6 deserts, 6 times 1 month). He defied winds and sands, committing to tame the six most unforgiving deserts on the globe, straddling six continents, in a breathtaking journey of six times one month. At the handlebars of his steed, he undertook much more than a bike trip; he initiated a passionate quest. Freshly returned from the third of the six stages of his project, we went to meet him.

Project 666 is a long-haul challenge.

The thrilling third stage of the project has just concluded with the cycling traverse of the Atacama Desert, a challenge that pushed the limits of cycling endurance. Stéven le Hyaric, adventurer and fervent defender of the planet, transformed each of the 4000 kilometers into a passionate declaration on the need to preserve our environment. Indeed, after triumphing over the Namib and Gobi deserts, Stéven Le Hyaric concluded his conquest of the third desert in South America, reaching Santiago after climbing a colossal 47,000 meters of positive elevation gain, all in an incredible span of 21 days.

4000 km and 47,000 m of positive elevation gain tested Stéven Le Hyaric’s body.

This is not simply a sporting adventure; it is a vibrant call to the soul of our planet. Stéven’s two wheels become silent ambassadors in a changing world, revealing the scars of climate change on nature and the human body. With 3bikes.fr, we slipped into his wake, ready to share the emotions woven with each kilometer covered.

The solitude of the cycling adventurer.

This epic not only tested the limits of his extraordinary physical endurance but also once again challenged his spirit, immersing Stéven in an anticipated vision of the world in 50 years and understanding the various implications. Faced with water and food shortages, and extreme heat conditions, let’s realize that he lost nearly 12 kg during this adventure.

For this former Elite cyclist who experienced his glory days in the 2010s and raced alongside a certain Arnaud Démare, cycling today is not just a means of transport or an object of competition, but a powerful instrument to inspire and motivate. Every pedal stroke through the arid expanses of the Sahara, the dunes of the Gobi, or the canyons of the Atacama is a visual statement about the fragility of our planet and the urgent need to act.

Stéven Le Hyaric still has three deserts to cross in Project 666 to raise awareness about climate change.

Beyond the physical aspect, each cycling challenge becomes a metaphor for Earth’s struggle against climate change. Stéven le Hyaric uses the power of the cycling community to amplify his message, calling on cycling enthusiasts worldwide to be agents of change.

“I learned an enormous amount… but I also endured enormous suffering,” Stéven repeats when we question him. This project was as beautiful as it was hard, probably more difficult than he expected. However, he tells us that he was delighted and is already looking towards the next stage with palpable determination.
