Manufactured in 3T’s Italian factory, the Extrema frame joins the Racemax Italia in the brand’s all-new range. While the Racemax focuses on fast courses and mixed asphalt/gravel riding, the Extrema is designed exactly as its name suggests: for the toughest race courses and fast adventures.

Although the Extrema and Racemax share the same filament winding and RTM-based carbon production technology, the Extrema distinguishes itself from the Racemax through a number of adventure and endurance cycling-oriented features for a more comfortable ride without compromising speed and performance.
The debate in the gravel world has always been about tires and their clearance for a given frame. In this area, the Extrema aims to be a new benchmark on the market thanks to its ability to accept 700c/29″ wheels with a maximum width of 57 mm. This means that 29 x 2.1 to 2.2 inch tires can be fitted, giving the Extrema the same grip as high-end cross-country mountain bikes, but with a much faster riding position.

The Extrema offers other advantages for fast races and adventures. The Extrema’s bikepacking capabilities are further enhanced by the triple mounts on the fork legs. This feature allows more gear to be stably mounted on the front of the bike, expanding the range of possible adventures and destinations.

The Extrema is also designed for speed on climbs, flats, and descents. Its “3Touring” geometry is in the performance zone of the gravel market, even if it guarantees increased comfort compared to the Racemax, making it an ideal option for a long-distance off-road event where a more relaxed and comfortable position is essential for performance hour after hour, and often day after day.

The Extrema’s round seat tube allows for the mounting of a dropper or suspension seatpost, making it the ideal bike for fun on trails and more technical (MTB) descents. With the other frame tubes being aerodynamic, you won’t lose time along the way.

To further improve its aerodynamics, the Extrema borrows the Integrale’s internal cable routing and the MORE carbon stem. This allows for internal cables from start to finish while allowing for quick adjustments and stem changes. The use of an integrated, but two-piece, carbon stem and handlebar allows for the choice of handlebar size and shape independently of the stem.
The Extrema is designed exclusively for electronic groupsets. Thanks to its UDH rear derailleur hanger, it is compatible with all ordinary rear derailleurs as well as the new SRAM Eagle rear derailleurs, which feature a direct-mount, hanger-less design.
The Extrema Italia is available as a frameset or complete bike in Mercurio, Terra, or Project X (raw carbon finish), the latter showing the carbon layer. All complete bikes take advantage of UDH and use mullet setups with SRAM Rival/Force AXS shifters and brakes, an Eagle Transmission (T-Type) series rear derailleur, and a 10-52 cassette. The two screws in the lower part of the seat tube allow for the installation of a front derailleur mount for a 2x electric drivetrain (such as SRAM AXS or GRX Di2). However, this somewhat reduces rear tire clearance.

For the crankset, users can choose the SRAM Rival or the more performance-oriented 3T Torno “Wide”, which will be produced in the same Italian factory as the Extrema and will be available from June 2024.
