Strava today announced the launch of a new feature, Flyovers, a 3D video mapping that recreates user activities to inspire their next adventures.

Flyover is a video recap of an activity, as if it had been filmed from an aerial view, offering Strava subscribers a different perspective on what they have accomplished. Starting with a zoom on the route, Flyover displays Strava’s characteristic orange line tracing the athlete’s path throughout the activity. Flyovers are available for all GPS activities on the subscriber’s profile, including past activities.
Strava users can access Flyovers by tapping on an activity’s map to open a detailed map screen. From there, simply click the Flyover button in the lower right corner to start the video. Currently available on Android devices, the Flyover feature will be available on all iOS devices by the end of the year.

This new feature is the latest integration of FATMAP’s mapping technology into the Strava platform. Since acquiring this adventure platform earlier this year, Strava has implemented additional features for athletes, such as 3D winter maps, map and route creation, custom waypoints, route details, and photos via the online route builder.
Now supporting 45 different activity types, the platform continues to enhance the benefits offered to subscribers, such as ski resort mapping, injury prevention content from Recover Athletics, Beacon safety tracking, route recommendations, an online route builder, the Global Heatmap and Personal Heatmaps, and Segment leaderboards.
