2024 Road and Gravel Groupset Prices and Weights

Several new drivetrain groups have been launched on the market since late 2022. Shimano first introduced the 105 Di2, to make electronic shifting more accessible than the higher-end Dura-Ace and Ultegra versions launched in late 2021. Then, a year later, the Japanese brand launched the new 105 12-speed, but with cable shifting this time, for greater simplicity. At the same time, Shimano introduced a new 12-speed mechanical group, dedicated to Gravel, with the GRX, which is available in several versions.

Update May 23, 2024: Shimano now offers a Di2 version of its GRX 12-speed group.

On the Sram side, the big novelty of 2023 was the Force AXS, refined compared to the previous version and available with new options (with or without power meter, in double or single chainring, with very wide gear ranges for Gravel). But the brand also renewed its entry-level, the Apex, only available in single chainring, but now available with an electronic or mechanical drivetrain.

Update May 15, 2024: Sram launched the new Red AXS, a very high-end group whose weight is now very close to the Shimano Dura-Ace Di2.

Finally, Campagnolo launched its new flagship group Super Record WRL, now with a wireless electronic drivetrain and a new range of gear ratios, including cassettes starting at 10 teeth and a crankset with a large chainring of 45, 48, or 50 teeth.

All these new products have in common that they are offered with 12-speed cassettes and disc braking only. Within the manufacturers’ catalogs, however, there are still some options with rim brakes, with Shimano Dura-Ace and Ultegra from Shimano, Red AXS from Sram, and a complete range of five groups from Campagnolo. You can also still find some 11-speed groups.

Weights and retail prices of all road and Gravel groups on the market

Weights are indicative and correspond to the lightest versions of the groups. They also depend on options (tooth counts, chainrings). For groups with cable derailleurs and rim brakes, weights include brake and derailleur cables (100 + 90 g). For disc groups, weights include brake hoses and fluid. For electronic groups, weights include electric wires if necessary. For all these elements, the same default weight has been applied to all groups, to allow for comparison, as manufacturers very rarely include them in the communicated weights. The prices indicated are recommended retail prices, and are for reference only. Beware of promotional prices on some websites, with imposed options (tooth counts and crank arm lengths).
